I absolutely believe that if the music industry was alive and well and there were A&R people and other factors providing that objective filter to many bands today, a huge amount of albums being released today would be completely different and for the better. I mean hell, sometimes albums were rejected by labels...like Quiet Riot's should have been, but that's not going to happen now.

There are too many self produced or friend produced albums these days that just do not get the scrutiny that albums got in the past prior to release. Like I said before, bands today write 12 songs and release 12 songs regardless of quality - there is no dumping of maybe 3 songs and going back into writing mode and try to write 3 better songs to replace the songs you dumped for not being good enough. Today, everything gets through and that's often not a good thing.

Most of the great albums of the 80s that we love, had others telling the band what was best for the album. That is partially why those albums are so great, because people like Kalodner knew what they were doing.
