i don't think Andrews' review of Burning Bridges is too far off. I agree with a lot of what he mentions in his review...and putting together that information (opinion) and others with my own...I feel that a solid 25 / 100 is more realistic from my standpoint.
Though... besides the packaging ordeal, which I think WE ALL can agree is pure shit, generic, and doesn't obviously conform to the standard and usual packaging that we are used to. Though I have to remind everyone that years ago Hurricane re-released their two debut albums in a similar fashion - though it was more of an LP style packaging...still same deal here
Now, I think if it wasn't for all the PR about how this is an obligation, or contractual record, then I think it could be viewed a tad bit differently...though I think a lot of people are judging the fact that is a bunch of "leftover" tracks from the last two record sessions with the notion of the obligation record with the Mercury Records.
Now, is it a good album? No. It is - what it is. It is not fabulous by anymeans, the tracks are subtle, laidback, and rather boring... and this has been the standard for Bon Jovi for the last two-three albums. Which is more than obvious in the style and sound of these tracks presented here on "Burning Bridges"...
Will it be a chart topper? No. Will it go Gold? No. If this album / songs were apart of the big box set from 10-15 years ago and released today...no one would still care, and the notion of the songs and the quality still would not change.
Hopefully, it truly closes a HUGE chapter in the Bon Jovi book and opens a new promising one that gets away from this Springsteen-esque lack-luster mature music he has been putting out for the last decade or so... But Andrew makes a valid point (as do others who have/are reviewing this record)...not only is Bon Jovi burning their bridges with their former label - but they are certainly burning many bridges with casual and die-hard fans who have been severely frustrated and disappointed in their last 2-3 albums.
