Dallas, TX - JUNE 29, 2017.  North American syndicated Rock radio show IN THE STUDIO with Redbeard: The Stories Behind History’s Greatest Rock Bands salutes Sammy Hagar on the 35th anniversary of Three Lock Box and the 30th anniversary of his knockout solo album I Never Said Goodbye.

After years of struggle as the downcard rock palooka who could take a punch and never go down, Sammy Hagar answered the bell in the Eighties and came out swinging. In 1982 Hagar scored a technical knockout with his first mainstream hit “Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy” from his seventh solo album Three Lock Box. By 1987, coming off the hugely successful VOA album with the highway anthem “I Can’t Drive 55”, the newly installed Van Halen lead singer would score his highest charting solo album ever I Never Said Goodbye with the powerful # 1 rock ballad “Give to Live”.  Hagar shares with IN THE STUDIO producer and host Redbeard how he managed to satisfy his solo artist commitments while joining the biggest band in the land.

“Everybody remembers the I Never Said Goodbye album that I made with Eddie (Van Halen) playing bass, right after 5150. Royalties off Van Halen records went to Geffen. I sold 5 million records for the guy (David Geffen) on three records. He wasn’t about to let one of his biggest artists just go - not anyone wouldd do that.”  - Sammy Hagar

In addition to “Divine Termination,” BEST + LIVE includes over 90 minutes of live music – for the first time released on CD. Sammy Hagar says, "Listening to this collection of songs from the ‘Foot brings back memories of some of the most fun I've ever had in a band. In May 2016, Chickenfoot reunited for two highly-anticipated one-time shows at Harrah's Lake Tahoe, and played their first complete set in more than six years, along with a special unveiling of the new tune "Divine Termination." Rock Candy Records Latest - SAMMY HAGAR, TYKETTO, KICK AXE, SALTY DOG

The following eight new Rock Candy titles are all available now from www.rockcandyrecords.com for a discounted price.

SURVIVOR 'EYE OF THE TIGER' CANDY322

STOP ANYONE ON the street and ask them to name one of their all time favourite rock tracks and there's a very good chance that 'Eye Of The Tiger' will top that poll. As one of the most ubiquitous tracks of all time, this song not only topped the singles chart in the USA but it also became synonymous with one of the biggest movies of the 1980s, namely 'Rocky III'; Sylvester Stallone personally requested the track and, by including it in the film, gave the song a thirty million dollar promo video!
Up to that point survivor had proved to be moderately successful melodic hard rock band but with the boost from 'Rocky III' the band was suddenly thrust into the spotlight, securing them the same sort of adulation afforded other hard rock heavy hitters such as Journey, Foreigner and Boston. It was a pedestal that served them well for the rest of the decade and beyond. Both the single and the album topped the US charts in the summer of 1982.
The album was produced by guitarist Frankie Sullivan and engineered by Mike Clink, a man who would later go on to produce Guns N' Roses. Although the title track is universally known, the album contains a brace of superbly written and arranged tracks that indicate the band's talent had reached new levels of creativity, even spawning another massive hit single with 'American Heartbeat', proving, if proof were needed, that Survivor could do no wrong.

SAMMMY HAGAR 'ALL NIGHT LONG' CANDY 290

ONE OF THE great things for rock bands during the 1970s was that they had plenty of opportunity to play live, to hugely appreciative audiences. But not only did their studio recordings have to be great they also had to deliver live in concert, and this was an area that really separated the wheat from the chaff. If you were known as a great live act then your success was almost guaranteed
With this in mind, it's no surprise that Sammy Hagar's live performances had almost become legendary. After three studio albums he had carved out a rock solid audience eager to lap up his no nonsense live performances and 'All Night Long' is a fine testament to that fact. Surrounded by members of what was, in effect, the same band that Sammy had commenced his career with, namely Montrose, and the addition of super guitarist Gary Pihl, the album cemented his ability in stone.
Originally released in 1978, and taped at headlining shows in California whilst he was promoting  the 'Musical Chairs' release, the album captures Sammy in full flight. Remarkably, there are none of the usual overdubs or studio 'fixes' on this record whatsoever, just the band and a mobile studio capturing a moment in time that still sounds remarkably fresh to this very day. Of course, the ghost of Montrose is never that far away with electrifying renditions of 'Make It Last' and 'Bad Motor Scooter' underscoring a link that will always be present.

TYKETTO 'DON'T COME EASY' CANDY295

THE EARLY 90'S presented a massive challenge to a number of melodic rock bands. The musical climate was being transformed by a rush of angry young men playing a stripped down form of rock, less influenced by style and bravado, and built mainly on angst and melancholy. For Tyketto this landscape meant that their arrival would be subjected to a chilly reception from a media obsessed with trends and fads.
The fact that Tyketto were out of step with the prevailing musical winds didn't mean to say that their music was anything less than spectacular. Indeed, their style and execution caused major excitement amongst connoisseurs of the genre, leading many to proclaim the album as one of the best records of the entire movement.
Formed in the late 80's, this New Jersey four piece had links to well known groups such as White Lion and Waysted. Impressing a number of labels with their own meticulous style of melodic hard rock, they signed to industry giant Geffen Records and cut this, their debut album, with renowned producer Richie Zito (Heart, Bad English and Poison). Inexplicably, the label sat on the completed record for over a year before releasing it, at a time when the public was then beginning to focus on grunge.
But if you like your music to sound big, bold and crammed full of hooks, in the mould of say Bon Jovi, White Lion and Winger, then this record will send you to seventh heaven; It's truly a remarkable achievement.

SALTY DOG 'EVERYDOG HAS ITS DAY' CANDY 304

THE SAYING GOES that every dog has its day but for one particular band that tired old proverb held no truth whatsoever. It's a shame, as the band in question , Salty Dog, happened to be one of the most outstanding acts of their time fusing red hot rock with a bluesy undertow that led others, such as Great White and Guns 'N Roses, to fame and fortune.
Formed in Los Angeles during the late 80s, but comprised of outsiders from a number of diverse locations, the band honed their chops in rehearsal studios, assembling a line up that would sound not only right together but also very different from what was happening on the strip. Indeed, the band's style incorporated a number of influences, from the old school rock of Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith, to the contemporary cut and thrust of Guns 'N Roses. It was also a sound that paid homage to the blues. That's the vintage gnarly influences of cats such a Muddy Waters and T-Bone Walker.
Originally released in 1990, the band received universal acclaim from critics, but failed to generate serious sales momentum. Produced by Peter Collins (Rush, Queensryche, Gary Moore) and engineered by British wunderkind Geoff Workman (Journey, Foreigner, M'tley Cr'e) the music resonates with killer intention. A sound that suggested the band would rightly take their place in the hard rock pantheon, alongside true greats, but sadly that was not to be.

NYMPHS 'S/T' CANDY305

THAT THE NYMPHS were not made for this commercial world is, on reflection, a pretty obvious statement. This is the story of a gloriously talented and forward thinking band, led by one of the most enigmatic and fascinating female vocalists of the time. In many respects they were destined for failure; it was a scenario written in the stars and one that maybe could never have succeeded, despite valiant attempts made by all those involved in the project. Indeed, if you are looking for a text book example of a great concept that crashed and burnt then this is the one.
Based in Los Angeles during the late 80s and led by Inger Lorre, the band were snapped up by label giant Geffen Records and touted as a revelation. Sounding pretty much unlike anything else at the time, their firebrand alt hard rock galvanised the label into believing the band held the key to the future. In many ways they did by making a stunning record, helmed by respected British producer Bill Price, the very same man who tamed the Sex Pistols, set fire to the Clash and gave the Pretenders a sound that continues to endure.
It was, however, Lorre's charismatic leadership and song writing that has secured the band's place in the pantheon of missed opportunities. Controversial, volatile and unapologetic, Inger led from the front, missing no opportunity to cause mayhem at every opportunity. Truly, this is one of the most extraordinary records of the last twenty five years.

KICK AXE 'VICES' CANDY337

CANADIAN ROCK HAS always been highly regarded amongst discerning heavy metal fans. In general, the quality of the craftsmanship, songwriting and playing is, in many respects, superior to any other country in the world, lending the acts an air of confidence and accomplishment that has always impressed. Kick Axe were, it must be said, one of the best Canadian hard rock acts that emerged during the early eighties, rubbing shoulders with other hot contenders such as Helix, Coney Hatch and Anvil to name but a few.
The Saskatchewan based five piece were initially formed by two brothers, that's Larry and Brian Gillstrom, together with bassist Victor Langen, all spurred on by the onslaught of British metal acts such as Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. Their intention was to craft a unit that embraced all the cut and thrust of the original genre, while injecting their sound with a melodic and contemporary edge. Signing to CBS Records in Canada the band was then, surprisingly, taken under the wing of Pasha Records in the USA, home of multiplatinum sellers Quiet Riot.
Produced by Spencer Proffer (Quiet Riot, King Kobra, W.A.S.P.) and originally issued in 1984, the album contains a sterling selection of tracks that place the band center stage in the burgeoning mid 80s hard rock renaissance, and give vocalist George Criston room to impress at every turn. As a prime example of 24 Karat Canadian rock, 'Vices' takes no prisoners and lays down the law with focussed intent.

KICK AXE 'WELCOME TO THE CLUB' CANDY338

THE MID 80S WAS an extremely healthy time for hard rock and heavy metal. It was also a prime era for Canadian acts, which seemed to be appearing at an alarming rate and all with one thing in common; they were consistently accomplished and uniquely skilful. Several of them were going global, such as Rush, Triumph and April Wine, but it was at a grass roots level that the real impact was being felt, with Kick Axe being at the sharp end of this new wave of maple leaf metal.
Following on the heels of their debut album, Kick Axe got right back in the saddle with a well crafted follow up; 'Welcome To The Club', produced, once again, by Spencer Proffer (Quiet Riot, King Kobra, W.A.S.P.) and his, for this record, assistant Randy Bishop. It was a far more mature recording, exuding a new level of sophistication by bringing in to play the sort of sound being pioneered by artists such as Queensryche and Dio. They didn't, however, take their eyes off the prize, keeping brute force to the fore and all hands on the steering wheel.
Issued in 1985, the record received, quite rightly, solid critical praise as it contains a brace of killer tracks, including 'Feel The Power', 'Hellraisers', 'Make Your Move' and a surprising cover version of the Beatles' 'With A Little Help from My Friends' that features several prominent Canadian musicians, including members of Triumph, Coney Hatch , Toronto, Sheriff, and Lee Aaron.

KICK AXE 'ROCK THE WORLD' CANDY339

IT'S OFTEN THE case with artists that they produce their best work when they are most under the most pressure. For Kick Axe this theory proved to be true when they unexpectedly found themselves cast adrift from their American label Pasha Records. It was a tough pill to swallow at first, but with the support of their Canadian label CBS the band lived on to not only fight another day but also to deliver their most accomplished record.
The Vancouver based quintet had made strong inroads into the world of hard rock and metal over the previous years, but had failed to connect on a commercial level. Their brand of tough muscular rock secured them a firm and committed following but various factors had prevented them from developing their unique abilities. The recording of 'Rock The World' showed that they could not only write great material but also refine their style of grandiose hard rock to reach its full potential.
Issued in 1986, the record featured ten superlative tracks; from short sharp red hot rock to captivating widescreen epics such as 'We Still Remember', 'Magic Man' and 'Warrior', all emblazoned with grandiose arrangements yet offering a firm power metal foundation. The production, handled by the band, is crisp and tight, giving no indication that they were forced to record the album on a shoestring budget. Truly, this is one of the rock world's best kept secrets, deserving of a place in any discerning collection.

The times they are a-changing, but luckily there remains one constant: great music will live forever and in the catalogue and reissue world that has never been more relevant.
In the land of rock, that’s hard rock, heavy rock, classic rock or, call it what you will rock, no label has won more acclaim and earned respect than Rock Candy Records. Owned and founded by former music journalist and A&R man Derek Oliver, Rock Candy has focused on breathing life into records that deserve a place in the pantheon of rock history.

Operating out of London, England for the last eight years, the label specialises in revisiting some of the most important and significant records from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.
From Ted Nugent to Rick Springfield, by way of Quiet Riot, Dokken, Billy Squier, Toto, Ratt, R.E.O. Speedwagon, L.A. Guns, Ace Frehley, Hanoi Rocks, and Kansas, the label has re-activated some of the greatest records of the last forty years, buffing them up, and re-positioning them as 24 Karat diamonds. To date, Rock Candy has re-released over 300 titles in Europe.

Rock Candy has made a concerted effort to dig deep and unearth a string of lesser known acts and records ripe for reappraisal, albums that have always been hot on the collectors market but overlooked at the time of release or just slipped below the surface through no fault of their own. Records by Montrose (the band who wrote the track that inspired the company’s name), Hughes/Thrall, The Godz, Blue Murder, Smashed Gladys, Girl and Blackfoot) have all been brought back to life for a victory lap. Having conquered Europe, Rock Candy has now set up shop in North America, happily partnering with industry powerhouse RED Distribution.
It’s a match made in rock n’ roll heaven and one that will shortly see the launch of a U.S. offensive, starting with four tantalising titles on Friday, November 18.

RED President Bob Morelli comments, “Derek Oliver’s Rock Candy imprint and RED are a perfect fit. Already a leader in unearthing the best in-demand out of print rock titles in Europe, the label joins RED like-minded music strategy in the U.S. As we outpace industry growth in vinyl Market Share, the addition of Rock Candy will help keep that trend alive and we are thrilled to have them on board.”

Keep an eye and, especially, an ear out for future offerings, but for now please raise a glass and join us for a toast to the imminent arrival of the following four solid gold classics all released on Friday, November 18.
These forthcoming CD titles along with limited-edition select merch are available for pre-order now at the newly launched Rock Candy U.S. storefront.

RICKY PHILLIPS Talks To Sleaze Roxx; MONTROSE & COVERDALE/PAGE

Follow the link to read Sleaze Roxx's interview with Styx bassist Ricky Phillips including details of the last recordings from Ronnie Montrose to be released.

http://sleazeroxx.com/interviews/ricky-phillips-of-styx-interview/

Credit: Ruben Mosqueda of Sleaze Roxx (sleazeroxx.com). Excerpts from the interview:

DETAILS ON LAST RECORDINGS FROM RONNIE MONTROSE ABOUT TO BE RELEASED

Ricky Phillips: I met Ronnie back in the early '80s through a producer friend of mine. He and Ronnie had done a project where it was just he and Ronnie on stage. It was extraordinary. It was probably overshooting for the average Joe. It was aimed for a higher brow musically. Ronnie had done the Montrose thing with Sammy [Hagar] and he had done Gamma which was a bit more 'proggy.' He wanted to do something new. If he had just stayed a rock guitarist, he have become a household name because he was so great at it. He is a guy that played those licks first and a lot of guys stole from him. I've been told this from guys I know that are in huge bands.

I went out to do shows with Ronnie along with Eric Singer [KISS, Alice Cooper, Badlands]. We had a few different singers. Ronnie loved the way we sounded and he was inspired to do another rock record. Eric, Ronnie and I went into the studio and laid down ten tracks. I started working with Styx and Eric resumed working with Alice and KISS back to back.

Right before I went on tour with Styx I received a call from Ronnie he said 'Listen I have an idea. I'm calling the record 10 by 10. We'll get 10 different singers, one for each song and we'll get this thing done.' I said 'That's a great idea Ronnie but we can't even think of one singer we like! How are we going to find 10?!' [laughs] He replied 'Listen I'll call Sammy [Hagar] and ask if he can do one. I'll call Edgar [Winter] and see if he can do another. I'll call people I know.' I didn't have the time to chase down people to sing on the album but he did. He got them and then some. He got Mark Farner [Grand Funk Railroad], Gregg Rolie [Journey, Santana], Eric Martin [Mr. Big] and David Pattison [Gamma]. I got Tommy Shaw on one of the tracks. It became this cool project that had this really cool band.

The record sounds cohesive. It's a very interesting record. We finally found a home for it. We're having some meetings with a label about it getting released and I hope we have this album released by the beginning of 2017.

I jumped ahead a little bit. When I say that we recorded the album; drums, bass and rhythm guitars were done. Ronnie passed before he could lay down guitar solos. I mixed the record so that Ronnie was very big in the record. It was his concept so I wanted to ensure that he was represented on this record. I wanted to bring in guys that Ronnie was into to come in and record the solos for the album. I didn't get everybody that I went after but I think all the right guys are on the record. There's a great mix of singers and guitarists on there. I have Glenn Hughes on a track with Phil Collen from Def Leppard playing the solo, Sammy Hagar featuring Steve Lukather [Toto]' Eric Martin, I paired up with Dave Meniketti [Y&T] and on and on. We have Joe Bonamassa on there too. I also have Brad Whitford who is the unsung hero to both Ronnie and I in Aerosmith. He's the dark horse in that band. I called him and he was honored to be a part of it. I can't wait for you to hear the track with Edgar Winter and Rick Derringer. It sounds like it was lifted right out of the '70s.

I'm excited for the album to come out. There's been a lot of blood, sweat and tears put into this album and a lot of love. I think Ronnie will be looking down on us smiling when it's released. It's pretty special.

WAS JIMMY PAGE WORKING WITH DAVID COVERDALE IN PAGE/PLANT JUST TO WORK WITH ROBERT PLANT?

Sleaze Roxx: And There's Coverdale/Page which you were a part of. I was looking at the RIAA page and the album achieved platinum status [1 million copies sold] in the United States. At the time, it was considered a 'flop' but it sold a million copies. It's a good record.

Ricky Phillips: It went platinum relatively quickly too. I learned a lot on that record from Jimmy [Page] and David [Coverdale] making that record about the business. John Kalodner, a behind the scenes record guy who has made a lot of careers happen, really believed in it. John knew it was a great combination. David [Coverdale] got a lot of flak for sounding like Robert Plant. You know when Jimmy [Page] starts playing, that's what you do! [laughs] That's what comes out of your voice. That's what needs to be done! [laughs] That's what David was doing. I think he did an incredible job. I have some recordings of us working on material. I think those are even better than the record because we're fishing for ideas. That's really honest, pure creation happening there and I happen to have those recorded.

As time went on, Jimmy bought a home in Florida and he was moving there. Then we moved the recording to Vancouver, BC, and people got sick' A lot of stuff started happening. We spent about five months working and putting that album together. I'm not making any excuses because I think we made a great record. When we were making the video ['Pride And Joy'] Jimmy pulled me aside and said 'I'm getting back together with Robert [Plant].' You know, there will always be those rumors that he worked with David just to get Robert to work with him. [laughs] I don't know that it's true. It makes me wonder. That's what I wondered at the time when he pulled me aside. That was the end of Coverdale/Page.

I had a blast hanging out with Jimmy. I was constantly asking him about The Yardbirds which is one of my favorite bands. Can you imagine a band that featured [Jeff] Beck, [Eric] Clapton and [Jimmy] Page at one time or another? He didn't seem to mind telling the stories. [laughs] On many levels, it was an interesting and educational time.

VERNON NEILLY's All-Star CD 'Outta Time'

Award-Winning Recording Artist Vernon Neilly releases his new album "Outta Time" on his own record label Boosweet Records.

Vic Johnson is a great guitar player, the thing that I love most about his playing is his tone, Vic has tone for days...
~ Vernon Neilly

Vernon has released his 5th solo CD entitled 'Outta Time' to his international fan base and the world. This CD features some of the most prominent guitar players, bass players, and drummers in the world.

Vernon Neilly is no stranger to talent laden musical projects, and this CD 'Outta Time'  is no different. Vernon brings together super virtuoso and legendary guitar and bass players, to include Sammy Hagar's ax-man Vic Johnson and others to help him to express his musical point of view. Although 'Outta Time'  boasts supreme musical fire power, it is far more than an exposition of world class musical abilities. The CD has a definite message for our times by means of songs like 'They Don't Care', 'Outta Time', and the cool 'Git Yo Lyfe Rite'. Strong melodies and hooks will have the listener singing along.

Vernon says, "the reason why I chose Vic for this particular song "Git Yo Lyfe Rite"  is because it's a Funk Rock type of song so when he plays you feel every note and he is a very soulful player! If you listen to Vic's solo on this tune it's perfect, feeling and tone for days! He's a bad boy!"

Vernon was heavily influenced by Jimi Hendrix as a youth, and pays tribute to the Guitar Hero with is version of 'Fire'  rearranged and produced by Vernon and Greg Howe. Vernon and this all-star cast of virtuosos Greg Howe (Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Rhianna), Frank Gambale (Chic Corea, Return To Forever), Jennifer Batten (Michael Jackson, Jeff Beck), Kiko Loureiro (Angra, Megadeth), Mattias IA Eklundh  (Freak Kitchen), Victor Johnson (Busboys, Total Eclipse, Sammy Hagar), Doug Wimbish (Living Colour, Jeff Beck, Tarja), TM Stevens (Steve Vai), Juan Nelson (Ben Harper) and the other highly skilled musicians bring the heat on 'Outta Time'.

*** All songs written by Vernon Neilly published by VNeillyI Songs BMI

As soon as this was announced we all knew they’d be comparisons. The timing of this release alongside the David Lee Roth fronted Van Halen release was ideal for hungry keyboard warriors across the globe to reignite the Dave vs Sammy argument for the 433rd time. But it is what it is, and because I’ve just reviewed the live VH album (better than expected) it’s fresh on my mind as to what it was missing there.

Hagar fans are going to love this. Van Hagar fans are going to love this. Dave Lee Roth/classic VH fans won’t – because it’s better than the Van Halen Live In Japan record. Ok, ok, I know it’s all down to personal taste, but I say that mainly because Sammy Hagar has a far superior vocal range and quality compared to David (no disrespect there, it just is) and Hagar also has the ability to draw upon 40 years of music, whereas Van Halen are boxed in to tackle tunes from just 79-84 and a few new cuts from 2012.

The band is shit hot – Vic does a great Eddie (but no one is better than EVH) and also gets to groove on licks written by Ronnie Montrose (when Hagar digs back to his origins with Montrose’s Rock Candy) and Jimmy Page (thanks to the inclusion of the nuclear Jason Bonham on drums).
The Zeppelin covers are handled with respect and authenticity, much like the Van Hagar catalogue.
Then there’s Mr Nice Guy Michael Anthony and his essential backing vocals and bass thumping.
Of the two eras, Whole Lotta Love, When The Levee Breaks and the iconic Rock N Roll are the highlights from the Led Zeppelin catalogue; while from the Van Halen list, its Poundcake, Why Can’t This Be Love and Right Now that impress most.
Throw is some Hagar solo classics like One Way To Rock, Little White Lie, Heavy Metal and of course I Can’t Drive 55 and you get a fantastic collection of infamous rock n roll brilliance.

The recording quality is probably above that of the Van Halen, the power in the mix is deafening at high volume and Hagar just sounds amazing.
And the acoustic Dreams that closes the album is far superior to that of the recently released Hagar/Johnson acoustic album.
If only there could be some new, truly great Hagar/Eddie Van Halen music, you know, something to wash down the taste left from the unfortunate Best Of Both Worlds compilation.

Ah, tis the season for live cash-ins, tralalalala….
Ok, so let’s just state the unchallengeable facts right up front – Nancy Wilson is an amazing guitarist, Ann Wilson has the voice of an angel, untouched by the years and Heart have recorded some truly iconic music over the years. Most of which I love!
They really are a force to be reckoned with and credit to them for still kicking in 2014.

But, to be frank, there isn’t a number low enough to rate my interest in a Heart Christmas release. Even one with “friends”…

After their last couple of albums have failed to interest me, this is like a nail through the head.
So if I haven’t offended those last remaining Heart fans out there enough, I will go on and state that the festive songs included here are dreadfully dull unless you are really in the mood for a mellow early Christmas celebration.

This ultra-laid back event can’t even be rescued by the normally reliable Richard Marx or the always likeable Sammy Hagar. Hagar’s Santa's Going South is hokey hillbilly at its worst.
What I can say positively about this release is that it is beautifully filmed and recorded – the audio and video are exquisitely captured, it sounds and looks a million bucks. Just a shame about the songs.

Not sure who to recommend this too. No doubt it will sell more than most cult releases I review on here, but that thought just makes me sad.
The score is more reflective of a need to recognize the audio and visual quality of the release rather than the actual content.

Sammy Hagar remains one of my favourite songwriters and vocalists, but he is really beginning to test my patience with his solo releases.
The Jimmy Buffet of rock has followed up a dreadful duets album, which itself was preceded by an atrocious bits-and-pieces release Cosmic Universal Fashion, with a fully acoustic ‘best of’ featuring some solo tunes and some reworked Van Hagar cuts.
As was the case with the last two albums, I’m again not sure who this is aimed at. Die-hards only I would suggest, as the production and performance within seems pretty rushed.

Some of the tracks translate to acoustic very well and have a semblance of quality to them – such as Finish What Ya Started and Eagles Fly.
Other tracks just grate on my ears – Red Voodoo, One Sip; and Sailin’ and Halfway To Memphis are just too hokey in this setting and Van Halen’s Dreams just sounds horrible.

I have nothing but praise for Sammy in Van Halen, Chickenfoot and his earlier solo material. But post 2000 his efforts have been very hit and miss.

This is obviously a quickly assembled, quickly produced fill-in release, but it marks another miss for the Red (used to be a…) Rocker.

SAMMY HAGAR Immortalized As Part Of "The Simpsons"

Just added to Sammy Hagar's website comes the news of the Red Rocker joining The Simpsons this Sunday.

"Sammy Hagar is going to have an appearance on THE SIMPSONS on Fox, Sunday, November 23rd at 8/7 CT. He will guest star in the upcoming season 26 episode "Covercraft".

This is the first time that Sammy will be providing his voice to his character on The Simpsons, but not the first time his likeness as a character has been featured on the show. Back in 2000 (Simpsons Season 11) Sammy was seen in the crowd at a pseudo-VH1 award show next to Wille Nelson.

Back in August, Matt Selman reached out to Sammy on Twitter saying, "Dear @sammyhagar, if you are out there, thank you for your hard driving rock songs! Best, your pals at the Simpsons #EverySimpsonsEver". Sammy responded saying, "Ya man! I'm here, ROCK ON! @mattselman".

We are looking forward to seeing the episode as whole come to life and to watch Sammy rock out in cartoon form. Be sure to catch it on Fox at 8pm on November 23rd."

Last December, HEART’s Ann and Nancy Wilson returned to their hometown of Seattle to stage a celebration of the season, gathering a few of their friends to join them in singing holiday classics, personal favorites and some of their own hits.
Special guests Shawn Colvin, Sammy Hagar, Richard Marx and Pat Monahan from Train joined HEART for this once-in-a-lifetime concert which was taped on December 12th 2013 at the beautiful Benaroya Symphony Concert Hall in Seattle.

The Wilson sisters performed an array of holiday songs originally written by Joni Mitchell, Harry Nilsson, Bob Dylan and Sammy Hagar in their Christmas set as well as some of HEART’s favorite songs. Colvin, Hagar, Marx and Monahan provided additional vocals on the tunes and/or sing duets with HEART.

HEART & FRIENDS: HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS ended a prolific and award-winning year in 2013 for HEART, who have been enjoying a resurgence of popularity since 2010′s “Red Velvet Car”, which became the group’s first Top 10 album in 20 years. Many successful live shows and tours (including a 2011 tour with Def Leppard, and their 2013 “Heartbreaker” tour) have occurred with 2012 seeing the release of “Strange Euphoria”, a definitive career-spanning box set; the arrival of “Kicking and Dreaming: A Story of Heart, Soul, and Rock and Roll”, a best-selling autobiography; the announcement of Ann and Nancy Wilson’s HEART star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the release of Fanatic, HEART’s 14th studio album.
And adding to their list of awards, HEART was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last April.

THE CLASSIC ROCK ROLL OF HONOUR 2014
Presented By Orange Amplification

'ROCK'S MOST PRESTIGIOUS NIGHT'
ANNOUNCES LIVE PERFORMANCES BY

KINGS OF CHAOS, CALIFORNIA BREED, RIVAL SONS
AND SCOTT WEILAND & THE WILDABOUTS

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 4
AT AVALON IN HOLLYWOOD, CA

Hosted by UK-based Classic Rock magazine, the 10th annual Classic Rock Awards--the Classic Rock Roll Of Honour presented by Orange Amplification--announced today a stellar line-up of live performances from some of the most exciting and respected artists in rock: Kings Of Chaos, California Breed, Rival Sons and Scott Weiland & The Wildabouts.

This star-studded list of performers will be joining an already announced list of rock icons to be on-hand at the all-star event on November 4 at the Avalon in Hollywood, CA including: Sammy Hagar (this year's host), Gregg Allman (this year's Living Legend Award recipient) and guitarist Robby Krieger and drummer John Densmore of The Doors (this year's Inspiration Award recipient), and many more.

Kings Of Chaos, the part-time, all-star rock'n'roll collective, are one of the most exciting live bands in rock for two distinct reasons: 1. The a-list revolving door of guest performers; and 2. The bands core line-up of Guns N' Roses' Duff McKagan, Matt Sorum and Gilby Clarke alongside guitar aficionado, Extreme's Nuno Bettencourt. It's a combination that brings anticipation and killer live performances in abundance.

For this intimate live performance, Kings of Chaos will be joined on stage by Sammy Hagar, the evening's host and frontman of Van Halen, Montrose and Chickenfoot; former Deep Purple and current California Breed frontman Glenn Hughes; and more rock royalty, Def Leppard's Joe Elliott and Phil Collen; and one of the most recognizable and important figures in rock, Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top).

As well as performing with the aforementioned Kings of Chaos, Glenn Hughes will also be playing a stripped-back set with his current band California Breed, with 23-year-old newcomer guitarist-singer-songwriter Andrew Watt.

Rival Sons have seen a meteoric rise in international recognition since their inception in 2009. Playing to thousands in sell-out shows around the world, this will be a unique performance in front of hundreds of their peers.

Scott Weiland, notorious frontman of Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, brings his new band, Scott Weiland & The Wildabouts, to perform their acclaimed live show to this star-studded audience.

Classic Rock editor Si'n Llewellyn says: "Playing live is the lifeblood of rock'n'roll and there are few things as thrilling as watching a rock show. On November 4th we'll be privileged to witness four unique performances from some of the very best in the business."

The Classic Rock Roll Of Honour awards will air on AXS TV in December (exact date TBA).

Voting for the listener and fan-voted categories just closed and winners will be announced at the awards. For the full list of nominees for this year's listener and fan-voted categories, click here.

For one night only, Classic Rock magazine plays host to some of the world's most renowned rock legends. This exclusive evening welcomes some 400 artists, industry figureheads and VIPs with a champagne reception and a three-course dinner, followed by the presentation of the awards themselves. The evening culminates with a live performance.

Reflecting the explosive growth of the Classic Rock brand, the event has grown from humble beginnings to become one of the rare 'must-dos' on the rock calendar. It has consistently attracted A-List guests, including Black Sabbath, Jimmy Page, Alice Cooper, Slash, Rush, ZZ Top, Jeff Beck, Brian May, The Who, Gene Simmons, Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Rob Halford and Paul Stanley, among many others, as well as live performances from Jeff Beck with special guests, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rival Sons and Zakk Wylde.

This really is the ultimate in rock'n'roll awards, and as such will be broadcast in the U.S. on radio exclusively through KMG Networks, a division of Krantz Media Group, it's national programming partner VH1 Radio, producer of On Tap with Nik Carter, VH1 Classic Rock Prep and VH1 Rock Prep, and KMG's advertising sales partner Adlarge Media. In the U.K. it will be broadcast on TeamRock Radio. Check out highlights from past Classic Rock Awards here: http://bit.ly/1qVqXoT.

Orange Amplification returns for a fifth year as a major partner in presenting the Classic Rock Roll Of Honour. Joining them are new sponsors MixRadio, official hotel partners the Sunset Marquis Hotel ' Restaurant ' Spa, Universal Music Group and Sammy's Beach Bar Rum.

SAMMY HAGAR Talks To RollingStone About Van Halen, Chickenfoot & Circle

SAMMY HAGAR has given an new interview to RollingStone, who posted the interview overnight.
The star vocalist touches on his new live band line-up, dubbed “Circle” as well as Chickenfoot and Van Halen.

Highlights include:

His new live lineup Circle: “As far as I'm concerned, that's my new house band. It's me, Jason Bonham, Michael Anthony and Vic Johnson. We call ourselves the Circle because this band has kinda taken me full circle in my career. I can play from every era, from Montrose to Van Halen to solo, Chickenfoot and some Led Zeppelin. In Chickenfoot, we didn't play songs by the Chili Peppers or Van Halen, but the Circle plays my whole world and everyone else's world that's in the band. It's been really special so far.”

New music with Chickenfoot: “Joe [Satriani] is my favorite writer to work with since Eddie [Van Halen.] I'd rather write a record with him than anyone else, but I don't see any reason to make a new record. Going through the whole experience with a record label, and then going out and doing 150 interviews, a big tour and waking up at 4:00 a.m. to go on Howard Stern all to sell 35,000 CDs…It starts to feel like, "Hmmmm. Is this pay for play?"
I mean, I love making music. But doing it on Chickenfoot's level means spending a half million on a record. We write and record for six months. It's a lot of work, and then to not sell many records. It's disappointing. I don't like being disappointed. I like winning.”

Van Halen: “I would play with anybody that loves me and that I love. That would include Van Halen, but the love's not there right now. I do love those guys. We really bumped heads on the last tour [in 2004.] Anyone that saw that last tour or read my book knows that I'm not gonna take any blame 'cause there's no blame to give me. I went out and did my job probably better than anyone else in that band. Anyone that saw the show, I think, would agree with me.
That tour was just a mess and I would never go into a mess like that again. I'm too happy as a human being to be that miserable ever again. I was miserable for the last 40 shows. The first 40 shows I was thinking, "Well, maybe Eddie will straighten out" or "Maybe this can come together." But that didn't happen, and by the last 40 I was miserable. I would, however, be in the original band that we started. That was a love fest full of creativity.”

The 2004 Van Halen Reunion: “I made it through a reunion tour that was just about the most dysfunctional thing I've ever done in my adult life, times 10. But I made it through. There's something funny about a concert. They can work for dysfunctional bands. You can get into a fistfight backstage. You can get into a fistfight the night before. You can be trashed, lying on the ground, feeling like you're dying. But when you drag your ass on the stage and 15,000 people are screaming with their hands in the air, you get revitalized. Then you look at the guy next to you, the guy whose neck you want to break, and you think, "This is good. I can tolerate this." When the show is over, you go back to fighting. And then there's the money. But, look, a lot of bands are in that situation.”

From the ground breaking Amboy Dukes' "Journey to the Center of the Mind," to classics like "Stranglehold" (ranked in the Top 100 Classic Rock Songs and #1 Guitar Lick) & "Cat Scratch Fever" (32nd Best Hard Rock Song of All Time) Damn Yankees chartbuster "High Enough," cult classic "Fred Bear," (the most requested song for radio airplay in Michigan & Wisconsin) and now “Shut Up & Jam!,” TED NUGENT'S first new studio album in 7 years!

The sounds he wrings from his almighty Gibson Byrdland leave audiences gasping for breath & begging for more. To millions of guitar lovers everywhere, TED NUGENT is rock & roll!
