BRETT WALKER Archive Anthology Planned on MelodicRock Records

One of my favourite albums of the 90s is the classic AOR of a record called Nevertheless. The timeless production from David Prater and a voice that defined soulful AOR – Brett Walker.
As it turned out, Brett was one hell of a nice guy too. As I followed his career from that classic solo album, I had the chance to interview him several times and as time went on, got to know him very well. He was one of the good guys as they say.
Then came the heartbreaking news of his sudden passing in 2013. Gone way too soon and with so much music still to give.
Brett was a prolific writer and was always recording and demoing new material. Much of which remained stored on various DATs in his home studio.
With the co-operation of Brett’s wife Sheron, I am very pleased to say that MelodicRock Records will embark on a mission to pay tribute to Brett by presenting an anthology of his unreleased work, which will include demos and outtakes for some of his iconic songs as well as an extensive collection of previously unheard material, reflecting the classic Brett Walker sound.
And yes, the Person 2 Person tracks are amongst the nearly 30 DAT tapes that make up Brett’s work.
I am honoured to be able to work on this and promise that this will be the best possible way of paying tribute to the late Brett Walker, while giving his fans something of substance to remember him by.
Progress updates will be posted over the coming months and a release is planned for later in 2017.

PLATENS - Out Of The World (Showcase) PRE-ORDER NOW!

Monday, September 8, 2014
MelodicRock Records is excited to announce the extension of our working relationship with Violet Sun mastermind Dario Grillo with the signing to the label of his brand new album with melodic progressive rockers Platens.
Platens is a melodic rock project brainchild of Dario Grillo, the Italian multi-instrumentalist.
After 10 years from the Platens’ debut album, Dario is coming back with a brand new album titled “Out Of The World” and a renewed line up:  Dario Grillo – vocals, guitars, keyboards; Riccardo Barbiera – drums; Domiziano Mendolia – bass; Gabriels - Hammond & synth.
“Out Of The World” continues to showcase Dario’s impressive writing skills and knack of working melody and mood into the most complex musical arrangements.
The 11 track, 54 minute album features inspired vocals, top class production and mix, outstanding individual performances from all and some complex, yet easily accessible powerful hard rock music.
The album mixes elements of progressive and symphonic rock, AOR and  melodic rock and will be released by MelodicRock Records SEPTEMBER 8.
Track listing (WITH AUDIO SAMPLES):
Full Track:
Dario was born in Palermo, Italy in 1979. He learned to play guitar at the age of 6 years studying classical guitar and music theory at "Vincenzo Bellini" conservatory in Palermo. During the high school years he formed, with his brothers Max and Alex, his first hard rock band called Dragon’s Breath. In 1997, Dario joined some great bands as Cherry BombzSqueezy Boyz and Empty Roads.
At the same time, he began to study singing, improving his skills thanks to some stages with Elizabeth Sabine [singing-master of Axl Rose, Dave Mustaine, Ron Keel etc.]. In 1998 he joined the well-known power metal band Thy Majestie as lead singer, adapting his voice to the heavier sound of the band.
The original and clear voice of Dario gave to the music of Thy Majestie a melodic feeling melted with the power of heavy metal.  After two albums ["The Lasting Power" and "Hastings 1066"] and one EP ["Echoes of War"], Dario left the band in October 2003 in order to dedicate all his energies to his new project Platens where he played all the instruments.
This new musical adventure saw the light of day on Frontiers Records whose president and A&R director, Serafino Perugino, heard the first demos and was enthusiast with what he heard. The debut album “Between Two Horizons” was released in 2004 and featured a driving melodic hard rock approach very close to the sound of such bands as Fair Warning, Terra Nova and Grand Illusion
Between 2005 and 2014 Dario has been very busy in his activity as producer, composer and songwriter. He worked with many Italian talented singers and musicians like Katia Miceli (X-Factor 2009 and winner of “Cantagiro 2008”, one of the most important Italian festival), Gianni Bella, Giuseppe Finocchiaro, Lorencè Brahem, Pio Fanale, Riccardo Favara and he took part to some international musical projects (Charming Grace, Caravellus).

At the same time he started the work on his new band called Violet Sun with his brother Alex on drum and the talented singer Alessandra Amata. Together they recorded and produced the debut album “Loneliness In Supremacy “was released in 2010 on Melodic Rock Records.

I’d like to thank the majority for their vocal support for the major changes that have been undertaken here.
I’ve only heard of one “Melodicrock sucks now” thread on a message board someplace, perhaps there will be more!
But no matter what – there’s no going back. The old site was easy to read news in one place, but it has zero functionality. No search function, no search engine optimization, no social media interaction, no individual URLs. It really was a very very basic site.
The 2014 site has all of the above and more and I’ve already seen a good uptick in social media shares and follows.
I can understand some not liking change and not liking the fact you have to click on headlines to see news. I hope those people come around.
What I don’t and can’t understand is several that have said they cannot navigate around the site.
I really just don’t see why – if you don’t want to read the headlines on the frontpage – then click on the MENU links (pictured below) and see the ENTIRE list of added news/reviews/showcases etc…. all in one place, just like it was on the old site!
Please feel free to send in any questions, but do take some time to get to know the workings and layout of the site before you fire off a pissed off email.

Hi folks,
Welcome to MelodicRock 2014 – a website that is finally compliant with all the latest SEO and Social Media demands of the Internet in 2014 and beyond.
A few points to make!
- First of all – there is still work to be done here and there, little tweaks that many won’t notice and as the site is opened to a full audience, there might be a few other little issues that come to light. By all means, if you have a question or an issue to point out, please do so!
- The site is fully compliant with mobile devices and tablets and will automatically adjust to whatever platform being used at the time. However, there is some tweaking still needing to be done on the mobile platform, so watch for improvements there.
- At this point in time, there is both a sign in and register option for comments as well as full Facebook comment integration. If I find the two conflict with each other, I may be forced to choose one method over the other.
- Please feel free to comment anywhere on the site on any topic or post and please also share those articles you wish to do via the tool provided! Spreading the word helps the artist and the site.
- There are a few graphics below to help show a few of the site’s new features. If ever in doubt when looking for anything, use the search function or the main MENU links along the top of the site. On display within the frontpage are all the latest articles/posts, but using the MENU will uncover many MANY more topics/posts/reviews – listed in order of post date.
- There is a LOT more content to be added to the site. Over the weeks and months ahead I will start bringing in ALL old Reviews and Interviews from the Old Site – which is still linked from the frontpage (along with both message board systems and MRX etc…)
- The site has a mega-accurate search engine and full cataloguing capability, so once I get the chance to add more of the old content and interviews and reviews, you'll be able to search and find anything and everything that I've done over the past 16 years.
Thanks a million for your support and patience and I sincerely hope the wait will be worth it. Go check it out and can't wait to hear your feedback. Add it into the comments below!
PS. The site will always be evolving....plenty more to come...
Best Regards,
