Hurricane have been absent from our release schedules for several years and return with an altered line up now in 2001.
Featuring regular members vocalist Kelly Hansen (also plays some guitar and keyboards) and drummer Jay Schellen, the line up is also joined by guitarists Sean Manning and Carlos Villalobos, bass player Larry Antonio.
The record initially I think, began as a Kelly Hansen solo record, but evolved into a comeback for the old band name.
On Liquifury there are also changes to the band's old sound. Obviously the line up has changed, but this is a tough hard rocking album.
The tone is much darker and the songs substantially heavier than we have previously heard Kelly sing. The sound of the album is certainly more contemporary that I had expected. This is a big step forward for the guys involved. The guitar work is fast and furious and the riffs come thick and fast.
Above everything, the quality of the songs, the production and the performance are what make this record stand out as a great body of work.
I can't see too many old Hurricane fans, or any current melodic hard rock fans being disappointed by what's on offer here. This is a tough, hard rocking, but essentially melodic album.
The sound and style, in fact, picks up where the last Unruly Child album left off. That album, if you will recall, featuring Hansen on vocals, joining his band mate Schellen, who was the band's original drummer.
After a brief intro - the album heads straight into business with the furious opening track River Gold, which is quickly followed by the slightly more melodic, but equally tough New God.
There's not let up with Heart Made Of Stone, a big melodic rock anthem that was heard previously on the Union 4 sampler. This track is a great urgent sounding rock anthem that should go down as an album favourite and sees Hansen in top vocal form.
Happy To Be Your Fool is the first hint of any softening in the album, with a track that is slightly more laid back, but is still dark and moody and rocks up a little in the chorus.
Bleed For Me is another very good, very heavy hard rocker, with Shelter continuing that, adding a great vocal hook in the chorus.
In My Dreams is the only proper ballad of the album, even then it's not that soft. But it is an acoustic driven, slower ballad style track.
Torn and Shine are both returns to the hard rocking base this album is.
BOTTOM LINE: A very energetic and hard hitting release, with a tougher sound and darker feel than anything these guys have been involved in previously. The record touches on familiar styles, but carves it's own destiny by moving in this new direction that I think will please most fans.
Above all else, most of the tracks are strong and memorable and contain enough hooks and melodic moments to rate highly with those who expect a certain style with any album with the band name Hurricane on the cover.

I did not know this band even existed until Kelly joined my fav, FOREIGNER. I got curious and bought a Journey tribute with Kelly doing Separate Ways. I was totaly impressed and pissed at the same time. Where was I when Hurricane was doing thier thing in the late 80's and 90's. I almost hate myself for missing out on Kelly's superb voice. This cd has not left my reach in the month I've had it.

River Gold is great, after that, New God blew me away and made me even more angry that I didn't dicover this band earlier. Heart made of Stone might just be my favorite, Kelly is just that good. I'm a huge pre-operation Lou fan, so Kelly joining Foreigner left me puzzled. I know Lou is not even 50% of what he used to be but, now after hearing this cd, I know Kelly will deliver justice to the Foreigner catalogue! New material with Mick Jones has me excited.

It's your Life and Bleed For Me are others that makes Kelly's vocals seem superior to anyone.

I could write all night about this cd musically, lyrically, and vocally, my suggestion, pick it up before it disappears!

Fantastic CD!! Hurricane are to me a show case for 'Melodic Rock'. There songs are very melodic, but with a very powerful punch ,aided by Kelly Hansens sumptuous vocals. Think 'Tyketto' but HEAVIER!!!!

I'm pretty hard to please so 80 is a good score for me. This album is very good, "new god, heart made of stone and happy to be your fool" are excellent songs. The album rocks hard in a melodic way which is how I like it. My main gripe would be the scratchy sound in places. Sounds like I've bought it on vinyl and frisbeed it around a few times. This happens on "heart made of stone" for example in one place which is extremely frustrating. Other than that I'm not complaining.

I had never listened to Hurricane before this one, but now I am looking for older stuff cause this new one is AWESOME!! I try a lot of new stuff and it usually takes about 10-15 cds before I find that one that blows me away and keeps me looking for more. Every track is good to great, how often do you see that? Best cd of the year for me!

I hope they started just where Slave to the thrill left. But Liquifury( like Andrew said)is heavier and darker than what they've done before. It needs more spins, then you find that It's a very good melodic rock cd. Kelly Hansen said that they follow the traditional sound, but there must be also an evolution. I miss the fun of their older released, but I really love the new songs like Heart made of stone(GREAT),Shelter and Torn. Kelly is stiil one of the finest rock singer, he put great feeling in every note. Very good come back.

Actually I was hoping for the "Same Old" Hurricane. Because that's the first thing I look for when a comeback album is knocking at my front door. But for the first time I'll bend. I totally agree with everyone that Liquifury is a very mature sounding album; it's really enjoyable for my ears. It may not be the "Same old" Hurricane, but sometimes a fresh new sound can be good, as long as the vocals sticks to it's roots. (Great job, Kelly Hansen!)

It's great to have Hurrican back! Now if they would only re-issue the old albums (I have Over the Edge on vinyl, but have never managed to find the CD). Anyway, from my first couple of listens, this sounds like a very solid album, worthy of the Hurricane name. I like the Intro with the short samples of old Hurricane tunes - nice touch! Heart Made of Stone is a great song. I'm off to listen some more!

Very mature Hard Rock album. Takes a couple of spins but it grows on you every time! Deserves to carry the HURRICANE moniker!
