1. DEF LEPPARD "HYSTERIA" What melodic rock is about: great songs, great players, great production. Women, Rocket, Animal, Hysteria: Not a dull moment. A real band in the sense that all work for the whole concept and no one tries to overshadow anyone.
2. BOSTON "BOSTON" Unsurpassed masterpiece. Each note beautifully played, each track a lesson in songwriting. Even handclaps sound gorgeous. A record to cherish.
3. JOURNEY "ESCAPE" They delivered the goods big time on this one. The result of joint forces of three fabulous songwriters and two meticulous producers. All songs could have been hits.
4. DEF LEPPARD "PYROMANIA" Pleases everyone, from the hardest to the most melodic. Made everyone scream and dance. Unforgettable.
5. STYX "PARADISE THEATRE" As good as a concept album can be. Profound not pompous. Melodic not lame...And "Lonely People"
6. VAN HALEN "1984" They never equaled this monument of sound.Eddie and Dave at their best collaboration. Seemed like best friends, ha ha.
7. ASIA "ASIA" Unimaginable that these four superstar egos could make such an accomplished work of great pop-rock, and all without forgetting their amazing past. Of course, those same egos destroyed the original band afterwards.
8. WHITESNAKE "1987" So many years waiting gave the best possible result. Perfectly crafted songs. Crowds went wild. Everyone forgot Coverdale's ludicrous hair. He would not make anything like this again
9. FOREIGNER "4" How have so many people forgotten this masterpiece? A collage of styles peaking in the amazing Urgent. Mutt Lange, Mick Jones, Lou Gramm & Thomas Dolby ended up being a perfect team.
10. YES "90125" Very few bands have reinvented themselves so succesfully without losing any credibility. A truly great pop-rock album that set new standards in production and arrangements.
