~~ THE 10 Best CDs in 2001 ! ~~

1) Danger Danger: Cockroach~ Is there any doubt this is the best release of last year? We all have the bootlegged copies and this did not disappoint. Ted is the man!! Bruno, give Ted a call and beg him to return....NOW.

2) Silver: S/T ~ One name...MICHAEL VOSS, so what if he's not the lead singer on this...he's involved and does back-ups, enough said, melodic rock the way it should be, here's looking forward to the new CD this year.

3) Giant: III ~ This did not disappoint at all, I see some people complain about this CD, are you nuts? 'It's Not The End Of The World', 'Can't Let Go'....Epic songs todays bands wish they could write.

4) Gotthard: Homerun ~ Just when you thought, hmm, 'Open' was somewhat boring, could this band be done? NO, they come out with some very catchy rockin' songs that have me looking forward to the next CD, love this disc.

5) Bonfire: Strike Ten ~ Finally...this band has a pulse. Some cool rockin' songs on here, not sure what the facination is with the south but they beside that issue, they are on the right track. Now write another 'Say Goodbye' or 'Tony's Roulette' and I'll be happy.

6) Pink Cream 69: Endangered ~ Now this is not on the same level as 'Electrified' (easily their BEST CD) or 'Sonic Dynamite' but this is still a very cool CD that beats most CDs out there. Great melodic rock. ~ And thank God David Readman is in this band, Andy Deris? what were they thinking. Great band.

7) David Glen Eisley: The Lost Tapes ~ YES ! Thank God these were found. Love this CD, some high quality songs here. Now if he could just do a new solo CD with this same quality he'd be set. Here's hoping he doesn't stay a 'Stranger From The Past' and becomes a force in the present.

8) Pete Sandberg: Origin ~ Always have liked this guys material, his 'Jade' CD was/is so underrated. Quality songs that stick in your head. I hope he puts 'Alien' back together, would be very cool.

9) Von Groove: The Seventh Day ~ Nice CD here. Songs that are catchy and pretty melodic. Wish they could put together a CD like the Debut though but few bands really can. You have 10yrs to write your first album and 10 months to write the second. Unless your Gary Hughes anyways and you can have 2 albums written...but that's another story.

10) Timothy B. Schmit: Feed The Fire ~ Some of you might be going huh? But this guys vocals are like silk.....pure magic. Really like this CD, it's great to drive long distances with. It's on an obscure label which is too bad, some real quality here, buy it if you can find it.

~~ Honorable mentions ~~

Dreamtide ~ Life after Tommy Heart IS good. So what if it sounds like Fair Warning, it's still cool. Hopefully they don't get washed out with the tide and stick around, they have alot to offer.

Loverboy: Live, Loud & Loose ~ Great live CD, not much for any live CD but this one is fun and great to crank up. Love it!

Pride: Far From The Edge ~ Will this band come out with another CD? Let's hope so.....a ton of potential here, nice vocals, good songs, hope they last.

Michael Sweet: Truth ~ Sure this CD was originally released earlier BUT I have the version from last year so......this CD is very cool. He still has some magic left, nice to be suprised by that fact....I do hope he gets things together and Reunites Stryper but this CD will do in the meantime...Get the Japanese version because the 'Bonus Track' Water' is worth it. Songs like 'Tomorrow' with a cool video ( that was actually shown somewhere) would be great. ~~

So there you have it, the Top 10 for 2001 and some honorable mentions........here's hoping there is a new Big Bad Wolf in my future!!...and let's not forget the MOST anticipated release in the last 10 yrs. *** HOUSE OF LORDS *** Prepare yourself!!

19/02/02: Lance Rushing - lrushing007@mac.com
THE 10 BEST CDS OF 2001
--------------------------------------
1. DANGER DANGER -"Cockroach" (both versions)(the wait is over and believe me it was worth it.....melodic rock at its finest ... both great but gotta give it to Mr. Laine..)
2. Marvelous 3 - "Ready, Sex, GO'" ("Little head" & "Beautiful"..... let's hope they are raised from the dead like Lazarus)
3. Johnny Lima - "Shine On" (Shock Pop version) (a trip to yesteryear (or down "Memory Lane") for all those yearning for the 80's melodic rock heyday)
4. Rubber - "Ultrafeel" ("Forgive" & "Happiness" (yo, Pete cool lyrics & vocals)
5. David Glen Eisley - "The Lost Tapes" (great idea digging this stuff out of the closet...incredible underrated talent)
6. John Waite - "Figure in a Landscape" (tell me "Fly" is not one of the best songs he's ever written/recorded)
7. Journey - "Arrival" (solid effort featuring the should have been a hit single "Signs of Life"....Mr. Augeri has pulled off the Impossible)
8. Gotthard - "Home Run" ( more like a triple but hey "Take it Easy", "Heaven" (the "Truly madly deeply" soundalike) & "Everything can change" almost got them a roundtripper)
9. Kelly Keagy - "Time Passes" (a taste of Night Ranger to hold us over until the real deal...."Wrong again" great song that should have been on Mojo.... Gary Moon, where is that solo disc??????)
10. Hurricane - "Liquifury" (not the TIDAL comeback effort I was hoping for but still powerful enough to wipe out Miami Dade County......"In my dreams" a great ballad that can make a grown man seriously question why he let "the one who got away" get away.....

Other favs: LUCKY 13 - "I want to score with Mandy Moore" (the single of the YEAR for all you Marvelous 3, Lit, Rubber, Blink 182 fans...), the Szuters- "Not quite Budokan" but pretty damn close ("you're the one" should have been monster), Bonfire - "Strike X" (the intro/"Under blue skies"...nuff said), The Cult - "Beyond good & evil" (comeback of the year....that is saying a bunch considering I was not a previous fan), Mitch Malloy - "Shine" (solid effort), Honeymoon Suite-"Lemon tongue" (THEY'RE BACK) and last but not least Mr. Big -"Actual Size"
("Shine" is the best single in years ala "Green tinted 60's mind" & "Staying together")

******Upcoming in 2002****** Ladies & Gentleman, I'm priviledged to bring to you......the power.... the glory........ House of Lords.... ........................and the return of the fab five the one and only DURAN DURAN

For me Arrival was released in 2000 , so it was already my favorite of that year , but it would also been my favorite of 2001 .
Albums that got very close ; Urban Tale , Rick Springfield , Avantasia , Giant , D2 , Dare , Adagio , Insania , Gamma Ray , Magnitude 9 , Last Tribe , Masi , Sahara , Asia and Shakra .
In my opinion 2001 was definetly the best year of the last 5 .

Well, a tough choice but here goes (Pick the order that suits you, since I can't 100% make up my mind on some!):
1) Thin Lizzy - Vagabonds, Kings, Warriors & Angels - Lizzy were always a big influence on me. Phil, you still deserve #1 spot!
2) Journey - Arrival - No, Steve Augeri, ain't Perry, but it still works for me! Great return, took a while with some songs though!
3) Kelly Keagy - Time Passes - It's the closest thing to a new Night Ranger album & the guys all chip in! Nice one Kelly!
4) Rick Springfield - The Greatest Hits .... Alive - What a return to form, with this killer of a live album! Sweet!
5) Shooting Star - Leap Of Faith or Best Of ... V2 - Leap Of Faith has been much underrated, to me, it was great to hear Van come back from such ill health. These guys rocked in Detroit in 2001!
6) Dare - Belief - Nice one Darren! Good to see others appreciate the album too!
7) Asia - Aura - This I found a surprisingly (To me!), successful
return to form, with Mr. Wetton! Nice one Mr.Downes & Co!
8) Cybernauts - Live - It really is a great album. Ziggy was always my fav Bowie album & Joe. E & Phil. C & the Spiders backing crew, did a great job! Awesome touch!
9) Winger - The Very Best Of - Yes, good to hear some of the old classics again, it all comes flooding back!
10) Bon Jovi - One Wild Night Live - Much as it's not the album it could have been, these guys were worth their salt, when they came through Detroit, in the Summer. Still should have been a double!
Please note - I also, have not heard the Giant, Terry Brock or Honeymoon Suite, latest releases, yet, so can't judge. Company Of Snakes - Here they go again though, was also very impressive!

03/01/02: Adam (The midwest of the U.S.A.) - www.slackerscdsandgames.com
Here are my favorite releases for last year:
1. Journey "Arrival" ...Steve Augeri and Neil Schon are absolutely amazing this is the missing Journey release between "Frontiers" and "Raised On Radio"!!!
2. The Cult "Beyond Good And Evil"....The "Sonic Temple" Cult all over again, HELL YEAH!!!
3. Kelly Keagy "Time Passes"... One of the greatest voices in rock and roll, a superb release.
4. Honeymoon Suite "Lemon Tongue"...Although its only been out for a short while I CAN NOT stop listening to it. The last half of this CD is fantastic! Johnnie and Derry are as good as ever!
5. Creed "Weathered"...These guys get better every release. This is arena rock and roll at it's finest!!
6. Brad Gillis "Alligator"...WOW! What a CD. Brad rocks on guitar and Gary Moon belts out vocals the way only he can. Some great songs and choruses on this disc.
7. Black N'Blue "The Ultimate Collection"...Finally a greatest hits collection from these guys. I forgot just how good they were with songs like: HOLD ONTO 18, MISS MYSTERY, NATURE OF THE BEACH, I'LL BE THERE FOR YOU, LIVE IT UP, STOP THE LIGHTNING, and so on and so on!!!
8. The Faint "Danse Macabre"...What a CD for fans of 80's pop/rock. Very heavy on the synthesizers and hooks that made the 80's sooo much fun. If you like THE FIXX or THE CARS or even FLOCK OF SEAGULLS definitely check these guys out on their sophomore release. A fun fun CD!!
9. The Calling "Camino Palmero"...This has to be one of the best melodic rock CDS to come out by a new artist in a long time. GREAT power ballads and arena sized choruses. A very good release.
10. Nickelback "Silver Side Up"...This group just plain out rocks!! 'nuff said!
Honorable mention for last year:
The incredible reissues of the BABYS CDS on ONE WAY records. You could not ask for a better packaged reissue or better sound, I applaud ONE WAY!
CDS I am most waiting for in 2002:
A new studio release from Sammy Hagar. (PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE)
The new reunion CD and tour from DURAN DURAN!!!!!!
The new RUSH CD!!!!!
Finally, hopefully a new Poison studio CD. If it sounds anywhere close to that ROCKSTAR song they put out on their website it will be the party goodtime record of the summer!
Thanks for reading, Adam

Here's my picks for the Best Releases(some might be on the heavier side for this website, but...) for 2001-
1.) Ryche-Livecrime/DVD/CD-It's about time this was remastered & reissued. For years you'd see these sell on Ebay for a crazy amount of $$$$!
2.)Ryche-Live Evolution/DVD/CD-Great set list! They could have done a few others, but why bitch?!
These guys still have "IT"!
3.) Rob Zombie-The Sinister Urge-Couldn't really get into his stuff, this one did it. Great Record, has come a long way....
4.)KISS boxset-Not exactly what the KISS ARMY(of Jackasses) expected, but somethin' is better than nothin'.
5.) Slayer-God Hates Us All-Released on 9.11.01, there's just too many weird things about this one that goes along with what happened on that date...
Killer band-The Soundtrack in Hell I'm Sure.
6.) Eric Sardinas-Devil's Train-Up & Coming Blues Guitarist, getting praise from the likes of Steve Vai, Johnny Winter, ect. Watch out for this guy!
7.)Scorpions-Acoustica-Unplugged Classics, even unplugged they have a sting!
8.)Alice Cooper-Dragontown- Not the real deal like his last one "brutal planet" still Rocks!
9.)Tesla-Replugged Live-Excellent setlist, you'll not be disappointed, just one of the best live recordings I've heard in a long time.
10.)TIE- Megadeth-World needs a Hero-It's not a RISK...
Ozzy-Back to Earth-A mixed bag, but a mixed bag from Ozzy is average for any other band these days. Zakk's back at least.
11.) Halford-Live Resurrection-Everything from Priest, Fight & the Halford band, another great "Live" one!
12.)TIE-Judas Priest & Metallica Classic Albums DVD-Britsh Steel & Metallica. Priest rules, and after 10 years now I can look at the Black album in a different way...
