...am I wrong or do I hear a growing likeness between his work and Kerry Livgren's work ? Kansas, AD, Proto-Kaw...?

...this one might grow on me. I swear, I have SO tried to like his music but something about it just doesn't connect. I've gone so far as to set aside time to put on an album of his, put on my headphones and sit in a dark room listening. I just came away bored. Nothing shone above the surface. I'll give him another go with this one.

...the one that always sits at the top of that list for me is Kerry Livgren of Kansas. I'd love to experience how he puts together a song.

...my opinion, this very album 'Strangers In The Night' is a great one. My other favorites are, 'Lights Out', 'Obsession', and the earlier album 'Phenomenon'.

...because these guys aren't really given their rightful place in the history of Rock, it's way to easy to let slip from your mind the sheer genius of their art. And that this particular recording is quite possibly THE BEST live album ever. Thanks for the subtle reminder.

...hahaha, what a quandary ! I may stick to playing bonfires and Christmas parties for my friends. Most of them like the same music that I like, and let's be real, there's not that much money to be made playing bars compared to all the effort put into it. We wont get into the topic of women to be had. Hahaha...

...no, he didn't play violin. David Ragsdale plays violin for them. Robby sang some parts and Ronnie sang ( or tried to sing the high parts). It is a strain for Ronnie Platt to hit the high notes. That's what wore on Steve's vocal chords.

...yeah, there's some really cool violin in the intro, T. ...I find your comment on bar band material very interesting. I've been asked to join with a very good guitarist/vocalist to do some gigs and I'm concerned that my taste in music just might not go. If I can't do songs that I enjoy it'd be a waste of my time. i don't think I'm geared for playing run of the mill bar music. Hmmm ?

...I agree with you on the mimicry and lacking emotion in their renditions. I tell any singer, if you can't feel a song deep down, don't sing it because the audience can tell. Now, not trying to gang up on you 'beetle', but to me POTSW is one of Steve Walsh's finest songs.

...probably right, Dan. Momentum is a very important thing and so hard to regain after you've lost it. John Elefante was a better choice but he turned down the gig for personal reasons.

...and I get your point, Deuce. Ronnie isn't a bad vocalist, he's just a bad fit with Kansas, coming from a life-long fan of Kansas.

...I've been seeing stories of Robby Steinhardt joining Kansas on stage recently and how he totally nailed the vocals. In trying to find some video, I ran across several of Ronnie Platt (the new 'official' lead vocalist) singing with Kansas. I have tried and tried to give this guy leeway to fit the part, but in my opinion he's just wrong for the part. He doesn't seem to get the grooves of the son
