I've always been a big fan of their more commercial side (Californication, By The Way and Stadium Arcadium). The earlier stuff I can take or leave to be honest with only the odd tune floating my boat. 2011's I'm With You was a big disappointment in my view. This sounds promising but I miss Frusciante. Gav

Mike who regularly contributes to this board is a big fan and will no doubt comment when he has finished his morning ablutions. Gav

Pleasure Principle will always be my favourite. It does sound dated though admittedly. I also really liked the Mats Leven stuff too! Gav

Excellent album. Strange Celebrity (or Arthur Mullard as Mike liked to call them) had an album called Remedy from a similar period which is also worth checking out if you like this kind of stuff. Gav

I have not enjoyed a Dream Theater release this much since Scenes! It is without doubt the most ambitious thing they have done and it was always going to polarise opinion. For me it comes across like a rock version of Les Miserables! I think it's fantastic! Gav

Amaryllis was excellent and the while the last one was comparatively weak, I wouldn't call it a pop album! Back to my original point though, do you not hear the similarities of this song to the likes of Second Chance, Unity, If you only Knew etc? They are pretty obvious to me! Cheers

Sound of Madness is a modern pop album is it? Ok!

Definitely a more modern edge.........I reckon it has a bit of a Shinedown vibe going on.

Quite simply one of the most underrated bands on the planet. Every album is a gem but Dosage and Youth are the best........just! Gav

I think the single is crap................ and I thought Bad Medicine was crap when that came out! I did however love the New Jersey album as a whole so this is encouraging news! Gav

The latest album "Lust, Love, Faith + Dreams" is great too. They venture even further into the predominantly keyboard driven pop territory but the songs are great nonetheless. City of Angels Gav

Like Mike said, there are way better bands doing this style like MGMT and Empire of the Sun. This song just goes on and fucking on and your comparisons are utterly ludicrous. You like the song. Great that is your prerogative but don't try and claw back the ground by suggesting it has anything remotely to do with what the people round here want to listen to. Gav

I don't think VIP is a rip off at all. Noone has a gun at their head to pay for it. I personally couldn't give a shit about meeting the bands but if I am able to pay for additional privileges such as queue jumping, better seats, quicker bar service etc. then I am generally happy to pay for it. We can debate the morality of it all but at the end of the day, it is astute marketing. Regardless of

It's a good strong album musically. If you don't mind his vocal style, you should like it a lot. Gav

I think that might be the wrong link. I saw the performance and it is a great song.............. I just can't handle his voice anymore. I think he sounds terrible. Is that Paul Taylor on keys too? Gav

A few of my friends are off to see him in Basel this week. I am insanely jealous as I have never seen him. Having said that, I saw the current set list and yeah, not too good with way too many covers. No excuse really and certainly not what the fans want to hear! Still wish I was going though. Gav

I actually think Firebirth is one of their strongest albums! Love it! As for Julio's comment....... fair enough if that's the way you see it. There were almost 10000 people in Locarno, Switzerland last July that would beg to differ. They are a different beast now and I am really looking forward to see what they come up with next. Gav

It's not really hit me yet. Nothing wrong with it........ just sounds a bit like they are going through the motions to me. Will stick with it and see if it grows on me but so far, I don't think it is a patch on Performocracy. Gav

The 80's rock era really was ALL about image. That is not to suggest that there weren't some great bands out there but looking the part was probably more important than actually being any good! Gav

Whitesnake were hardly huge in the 70's. I remember an interview with Coverdale where he clearly stated that Whitesnake never made a penny until they broke America.......... which was obviously with 1987. Gav

Really?!!!!! There are thousands of photos from the 87 / Slip of the Tongue era that suggest otherwise. Whether YOU personally like the "label" or not Andrew, "hair metal/rock" was a genre that Whitesnake deliberately pandered to............was probably the most lucrative part of their career too. Certainly in terms of album sales. Gav
