I remember catching their set on Radio 1 on a Saturday afternoon (!) - some festival or another - and my jaw dropping when they did The King is Half Undressed. A bucket list live band that is likely to remain just that. Tho I did say the same about Redd Kross and they proved me wrong (well, at least up till the point they cancelled the UK leg of their tour last year)....

And while I'm working my way through the mag, congrats to In Faith on a top review. Hopefully will give them a wee sales boost. Other well received albums were the newbies from Billy Idol (9/10!), John Mellencamp, Mr Big (natch), Mark Lanegan, Vega, Angels or Kings, Weezer, and Kory Clarke (who doesn't love a bit of Warrior Soul?). Lesser known (for me) that could be worth checking out as w

Nice to see a few pages in this months edition on Sturmer, Manning and co. I knew Sturmer was doing a lot of Disney stuff but didn't realise he was so reclusive - or that Manning and Sturmer haven't spoken since 1994ish. Real shame that there seems little chance of a third album. Also good to see CR describing Bellybutton as "vibrant songs stuffed full of wit and invention" and Sp

Not an arena tour for Scotland! Usher Hall in Edinburgh - and as all attempts to book tickets online have failed, I'm assuming it is sodding well sold out. :(

On spotify. Sounds pretty good on first listen through... Obviously know of them through Bon Jovi link - where do you suggest starting with back catalogue Terry?

Same here in Central Scotland. Have to go to internet for decent music - AOR Then and Now, BeRock, etc - as local radio is shite. If I'm forced to listen to the radio in the car with the wife, it's the likes of Central FM, which means current pop music, or 80s/90s pop, depending on the time of day. Can't get any 'rock' stations. So I do a lot of spotifying / cd listening to and from work. Not r

Saw them back in the day - a sweaty students union in Belfast (supported by Cracker - anyone remember them?). One of those gigs I enjoyed well enough, but didn't quite live up to expectations. May not have helped that he had an argument with the audience because he was refusing to play Raining in Baltimore live ( which was my favourite song off August). If they're not sold out already, I'll t

What Ramsay said. Gold is an amazing album, but he has so much stuff that he releases that it can be a bit of a chore wading through all the patchy stuff in search of the gems.......

Ditto - their last (covers) album didn't do much for me, and they'll never top August (probably my favourite album ever by anyone), but I shall certainly be purchasing this.

Big fan of their stuff, and have all their albums, but this is a bit disappointing. They've always been a bit over the top (Porno Star was just as filthy back on album 2), but you really can have too much fuck-ing. Shame.

Great topic - love this stuff. Some great recommendations in this thread that I'll be investigating further - along with revisiting Third Eye Blind, the Calling, Hootie and the Blowfish et al. For me Counting Crows and Collective Soul were the standouts, along with the MB20 debut. Back in the days when Kerrang reviewed their albums (if memory serves August and Everything after got the full 5 Ks!
