My issue is that there has to be a more constructive way to share this opinion than to simply boil all his work down as mediocre. Even if I don't love everything he has a hand in creating, I absolutely respect him as an artist. I think the true test of this is to ask yourself - if you met him in person, would you use these words to his face?

1: Toto - XIV 2: Eclipse - Armageddonize 3: Revolution Saints - Revolution Saints Many other good releases, but these three stand out for me in terms of how many times I have played/continue to play them through

Didn't love Precious Metal and so my hopes weren't high for the new one, but the samples sound pretty promising so I put it on pre-order at Amazon. What's not in dispute is that Jimi Bell is just a monster guitar player.

Wow, that setlist cements it for me - I'm flying up to see them at their date in MA before they start the tour with Yes. I want to get the full 2:15 setlist - amazing!

I don't see how you can simply eliminate an entire genre of music - there has GOT to be some bands/albums/songs in it that you would actually like. Oh and "get off my lawn!" :)

No issue with my copy I purchased back when it first came out. Still play it regularly (not so much his latest one - Laney's Legion).

Strangest for me was a show in the 80's where Cheap Trick was the headliner with Twisted Sister, Ratt and Lita Ford as the other acts opening. We left as "Hello there ladies and gentleman" started playing. 30 years later I wished I had seen Cheap Trick. :)

Liking the new one much more than the last couple of releases. Definitely worth checking out/picking up.

Really appreciate where you're coming from and I'm sort of aligned with your thoughts with a couple of minor differences. I can still appreciate the Saints album for what it is and will certainly come back to it every now and then for a quick pick me up of simple, feel-good melodic rock. As for Toto, it had both very immediate, positive impacts (first half of the CD just smokes) as well as a M

Received my copy and have listened to it all the way through a few times (haven't watched the DVD yet). What an interesting mix of songs - first half really rocks and the 2nd half has a wide range of songs. Can't get the earworm of Chinatown out of my head for some reason. :) Highly recommended.

So after listening to it all the way through I would concur with the other opinions - nothing earth shattering in terms of the main album remaster, but I really enjoyed the live album. For $18 or so, well worth it.

I've been traveling on business the past week and so have not had a chance to listen to it as yet, but I can comment on the packaging - which I think is very well done. Will report back on Monday on how it actually sounds. :)

Thanks for sharing these Doug. I still regularly listen to the Stun Leer album (ok, fine it's while I'm on the elliptical, but the CD gets the blood pumping) and just want to say thanks for the music.

I was going to say the Magnificent as well, but then I realized that Clockwork Angels came out later. Rush - Clockwork Angels :)

I know many have a negative opinion because of the production, but for me it's Lay It All On Me. Still play it regularly and really love the songs.

That is so fascinating to hear in this day and age. I am the complete opposite: unless the artist is on my no questions asked list (Rush/Toto/JSS/etc) then I HAVE to hear the samples before buying.

Listened to it as well. I love Richard's voice, but a bit too much country influence on some of the songs for me.

I'll start by saying that there are MANY other people with a far more educated take on the subject than myself, but I've always thought that n-1 or even n-2 (where n is the best, most obvious lead single choice from a new album) makes more sense to ensure staying power for a release. So people would react that the first single was good, but wow that second one is even better - I must go buy this

Just blown away by how good this sounds. I will make all required sacrifices to finally see these guys live later this year when they hit the US - long overdue.

Just checked them out on CDBaby and the music sounds terrific, but the vocal mix made it almost unlistenable. Too bad as I would have pulled the trigger otherwise. Thanks for the tip though!

I'm not one to go on too much about lyrical "depth", but man I must be getting old - that is some real tripe. Shame as the music is not too bad.

Still give it regular spins here and with most Rush albums, just hit play and let it go. :)

Never heard of these guys, but that is a great song on the front page. Even better news, the album is on Bandcamp so I don't have to pay $21 to Amazon to get a lossless copy. Thanks for highlighting Andrew!

Seeing them with my daughter as well a week from Friday in Charlotte, though I am the much bigger fan in this case. Very talented band and will miss their live shows.

I'm sure there are exceptions, but overall I couldn't agree more. I can still enjoy Kelly singing the old songs, but it comes nowhere the same level as with Lou to use your example.

The best revelation for me since I first heard The Magnificent back in 2011. Ordered the CD immediately!

Similar sentiment for me after a couple of days with the CD - not quite up to the level of the debut, but far better than their last album (which I gave up on after two weeks of trying to love it, but failing).

Not only an incredible drummer (understatement), but a fascinating writer as well. Very talented human being.

Hard to properly judge from the samples, but it seems to be missing a couple of faster paced songs to even out the tempo of the album. Surprisingly, vocals still sound terrific after all these years.
