I think they waited too long to take the make-up off. By that it was a tired act and people lost interest in the mystique. MTV even ran it on a late Sunday night with very little fanfare. I think the perfect time would have been ironically around the "Unmasked" album. Yes you'll hear Gen and or Paul talk about how it was one rocks most anticipated moments and millions upon millions of

"He took 'black' music and sold it to white folks, that's his influence right there. That then opened the floodgates for everyone that followed, whether he wrote his own music or not is irrelevant in the context of his cultural influence" AGREED. Not to mention until Elvis, radio airplay for "race records" was pretty much non existant.

WOW! Just wow! I echo the sentiments of these people. The video says it all. And that's an assault crime. It is illegal to spit on someone. Kuddos to the drummer for not losing his cool. Goodbye Geoff.

Great question! For me nothing can replace holding the actual physical cd. The industry has been trying to kill off cd's for several years now but they just won't die. I think that it has a lot to do with people wanting to have an actual physical version of the music.

I've been on board with this band since 1975. I am another one who's tired of the same old setlist year in an year out. The Kimmel performance "Detroit Rock City" Really!? It's true that a lot of the casual fans only care about the greatest hits but what about those of us who have been there all along, album after album-tour after tour. And I saw yet ANOTHER greatest hits cd in the

I read an interview with Alannah a few years ago in which she said she had serious problems with the "fame" side of being an artist.

I'm giving thumbs up on what I've heard so far. The producer did an exceptional job of modernizing the band without comprimising the VH formula. And as far as not hearing any obvious hits, it's refreshing to me that they didn't play the follow-the-corporate-radio-hit-leader game like sooo many bands these days. Chinatown is especially a smmmokkin' tune!

I'm music Director for a radio station in the USA. We ALWAYS get a tip sheet advising us when new singles are on the way, usually 1-3 months in advance. There is nothing listed for Van Halen. Notta. Zilch.

I love this topic! Rush "Fly By Night" used it as frisbee (I later kicked myself for that) Queen "A Day At The Races" melted it on the stove and took it back, told the store I bought it like that. (I kicked myself again)

Have seen them. Great visual production that rivals some of the best rock shows out there. I was reading an interview with Bootsy years ago where he ackowleged KISS as giving him the inspiration for the spectacle that was/is P-Funk. ANd there was noooo rapping. All old school funk/metal with a little Zappa weirdness.

Andrew! Excellent response on the main page! Can't say we weren't 'sort of' warned though. Sammy Hagar to Pulse Of Radio: "It's almost like they don't care about their fans. They just want to badger them until - see how much they'll take."

What do you think happened? As rumours go, this was more rampant than I've ever seen. Official Grammy Twitter feed Nov. 5 2011: "Who do u predict the reuniting band will be @ #GRAMMYnoms? Does this hint make u wanna "Jump" & "Dance the Night Away"? And who's responsible for the official Grammy Tweet?
