After "Voice" and "I on U" Neal Schons playing and song writting hasn't been that great at all... "The Calling" was very poor and hearing that a song from that album made it to #3 is shocking. Eclipse was also quite a disappointment, normally there are 2 or 3 songs I will always remember from a Journey album that would play over and over in my head but with Eclips

IMO....it all boils down to greed and impatience. From the point of the record labels, in the past they seemed to be very selective in who they sign and promote. They spent lots of money on a select few artist and bands and this is why they became so big. Other artist (perhaps rightly so) who wanted their share of fame couldn't wait to be signed by major labels, so small labels came on th

A Band name would also depend on the message in their music. If they are leaning to AOR i take it they may be singing about love, heartbreak etc etc? Battle of Hearts Fire n Ice

I think Lost in the Echo is the only song that resembles anything from their first two albums...other than that..I think they have had it...I am all for bands evolving and changing up their sound but...geezz..they should be getting better not worse http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSeRgbCG0RY

Well after listening to their other projects...I think they should stick with Frontline. ( Steroetide wasn't bad but....thats another genre all together )....Hope they realise something new, the vocals in stereotide sound alot better so I hope he puts those vocals to good use in frontline's next album

Agreeded....i guess some might have missed the point or perhaps i didnt clarify...there is good music out there today but the production on them isn't as fine tuned and The musicianship and creativity seems to be lacking (Not just in rock). The examples i posted are not for the sake of what is popular..I was simply using it as an example of songs that were well crafted......I listen to almost eve

you are correct...there is good music out there..but the signature sound of early 90s melodic rock seem to be gone and IMO it was fantastic and this style made alot of band famous.....bands today have a different sound which is ok..but when compared to the early days it doesnt seem to match up in SOME cases...

I was just listening to alot of suggested late 80s early 90s rock bands and it occurred to me that music has seriously deteriorated over the years. The style of composition, production, musicianship everything has somewhat gone downhill. I then wondered why on earth don't bands today take their time to craft an album with songs that will last decades rather than just a few weeks? Here are two

Over all Giant and Signal is my fav. Here is a small suggestion...since finding all these bands can be a difficult task there should be a topic that list some of the best Melodic Rock bands out there..

Thus far I have noticed that many of the greatest melodic rock albums came from the period 1988-1992 ( There may have been others from different years but this is just my observation ) ...It seems like everyday I am discovering other great bands from the late 80s early 90s and I was wondering if anyone can recommend a few bands that are in the same style of Hardline Alias Strangeways Def L

The guitarist is amazing....the solo in "Fantasty" is just jaw dropping...the album itself is ok..but they should have stuck with with a more late 80s/early 90s sound that they developed on somes like "Romance". In a perfect world ...if they blended songs like "animal attraction", "born to break your heart" and "Fantasy" into their first album.

I think the first Hardline album sets the pace for what melodic rock should be...Neal Schon was a big influence on their sound as well...Apart from Hardline -Double Eclipse, I think Signal - Loud and clear is the next best of the melodic rock genre....my opinion of course... I hope we hear something good from Hardline or Johnny soon..
