Yes. That was the link I intended to post. I figured that it's VERY raw nature would make it very easy to tell for many. (I thought maybe the sound of him struggling on some notes, and the pitch changes he made to do so, would show whether or not he was being autotuned.)

I just wanted to see how good my ear is. Does anyone sense autotune on this? I know there is some on his live CD from 2009, and I'm trying to learn to distinguish. For the record, I'm thinking "NO", since I don't notice any of the "cut off notes" such effects would do. What do the experts on here think. (I'm not accusing or trying to dish any negativity. If ANYONE has earne

Hasn't Australia had an unusual amount of rock acts performing there this year (GNR, Kiss/Crue, Springteen, Journey/Purple)? Assuming this IS the case, I assume that Australians are simply running out of extra "concert money". This isn't the norm, as I know it.

A co-worker thought of me, when he heard My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark, because of that hair metal scream.

I can see that being the case about Refugee. BUT, why then, would he perform it TUNED DOWN until 2006/07, and then begin singing it in the original key again around 2008. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsvYMkvdqlo - That DOES sound like a man who can't sing the song anymore. If it worked for all of those years, why would he go back to original key, then, only to lip it?

Maybe that slight "robotic sound" I hear is just the tone of his voice, these days, on the higher notes. I know that he has used tapes in the past, especially for the Free Fallin' chorus. This was the 2nd video I meant to post, originally. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIgzFvOTxTo You guys think he sounds robotic/compressed at 1:33 ?

I was recently looking at these Tom Petty vids from last year, as I lament not being able to get Beacon Theater tix! HAHAHA! Is that autotune I am hearing on his voice or flat out lipping? I do notice a bit more of a compressed sound at parts. (I am trying to develop my ears, more, so that I can pick up on stuff like this. I know many here can can do so easily.) http://www.youtube.com/watc

Was this any time recently? But, regardless, that's good to know. I'm glad there are still some musicians, who risk at all with no trickery.

You might be on to something. Take a look at when he sings "WAY before then", in both videos. - Original - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7Xbi9QlLS8 (at 0:57) - DVD version - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tvhmq6_IKs (at 1:07) PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR OPINIONS, but am I the only one that thinks it sounds like he missed the note in reality...but the DVD version has it correct

Agreed. But do you, or anyone else, know of them using it in their normal concerts (non-recorded)?

I was just looking at YouTube videos of REO's recent LIVE AT THE MOONDANCE JAM release. And for songs like Keep On Loving You & Can't Fight This Feeling, many are saying Cronin has autotune on his voice. Does anybody know if they use this in all of their concerts? (I know they don't use tapes.) Or, could this have just been done for the sake of the DVD?

Really? Def Lep pipe in vocals? They always sound "raw enough" to be live in my opinion. I guess if they do use tapes, "BRAVO!" They work them in REAL WELL!

I just had an argument with a co-worker, about which bands use backing tapes in concert & which ones are totally live! So, to set the record straight, I figured I would check with the experts here. This is how I've come to know it. I am wrong or right? Backing Tapes Used Journey Aerosmith (some songs; rest Russ Irwin) Danger Danger ALL LIVE Styx REO Speedwagon Night Ranger

Is it just me, or does the mix seem a little off, at points, on the recent Grand Illusion/Pieces Of Eight DVD? For example, the acapella part of Renegade, after JY's solo, seems to have Tommy & JY higher in the mix than Gowan & Ricky. (Not to mention that it seems that JY is taking lower notes, now, than he has done in the past. His higher pitched parts are very noticeable.) YouTube vi

I will admit that I have not seen the NAMM video yet. BUT, I did get to the see 2012 tour, and my buddy & I (both young adult, classic rock aficionados) both thought the band sounded phenomenal. Now, let me make it known, that both of us have seen Boston multiple times, including shows with Delp & Cosmo. Maybe the loud volume/vibe of the crowd helped make it sound better? I don't know

I've heard much of the album, too, and I agree, it KICKS ASS. However, I have to agree a bit about the production quality. I feel that a lot of the lyrics, especially Stanley's, are hard to distinguish. While I am sure some of it is lack of enunciation, I feel the production is burying the lead vocals a bit too. Musically, the prodution is great, but the vocals could be better on some. Jus

I noticed the same thing. Regardless of the politics of Fox News, the chopping up of the songs was asinine. Regardless, Elliot actually sounded really strong (considering how he usually comes across on TV, in the early hours.) I wish I had found a way to go in person, since I work across the street.

The stage was originally designed to have a catwalk. However, after a week of shows (2 weeks max), they realized that it was used so little, that it was removed from the stage set-up. Simply, there won't be a catwalk!

From the looks of this picture/video, it seems like they have been working with DeCarlo A LOT. Now he looks like an actual rocker! Hopefully, stage presence was covered as well. http://www.tc-helicon.com/tommy-decarlo-falling-in-love-with-tc-helicon/

Danger Danger is actually booked to play a little club on Long Island, this October. I would assume that this means that they are still together. Whether or not we will get new music, though, I am not sure of.

We all know that they aren't youngsters anymore! Personally, I figure, it they need a day or 2 off between shows, then GO FOR IT! It probably takes them a little longer to "recover" after a performance, and if this is what it takes for them to continue killing it on stage, why not?

I think I heard that it is in fact Joan Jett. (I know that it is NOT Twisted Sister. Dee Snider is against doing full out tours, these days.) Regardless, whether officially or not, I think the idea is all of the bands are represented in the Rock Of Ages movie musical, coming out this summer.

I just really want to see it hit #1, because it will be cool to see a classic hard rock band gain such a distinction. More so, it will be a total riot to think that David Lee Roth had to wait until 2012 to be on a #1 Van Halen album.

I totally forgot about likely increase in Whitney sales. Although, come to think of it, I am surprised that Interscope/VH chose to release the album on February 7th. They could have waited a week (or dare I say, released it a week sooner) & avoided the Grammy effect. Then the chances of a #1 album would have been greater. You KNOW they'll use it for the marketing if it hits #1.

Rumor is that Van Halen might debut at #1 on the Billboard charts! However, some are fearful that friggin Adele MIGHT be a bit of a problem, after many awards & exposure, last night at the Grammys. Keep in mind, this would be the 1st VH album, with Roth, to reach #1!

Well I guess there is my consensus! I guess for the most part, we all believe he is LIVE, maybe with a little "help" (mic volume boost, reverb, etc., especially as the show progresses). As for Phil: it just proves it's one thing to READ these boards & ANOTHER thing to partake. I should leave the fighting/bickering up to the "Melodic Rock Pros!"

I guess that's your way of saying you think he DOES lip-sync? Pardon me if it was not as obvious to me as it was to you, or if I retained a certain amount of hope about this. And, NO, I'm not trying to be any whistle blower, ground breaker, etc. I'm just trying to find out the truth. Yes, it does annoy me when singers do that kind of thing. But I am by no means out of touch with possible p
