I'm a die-hard Dokken fan, but haven't liked everything they've done in the last 15 or so years (Dysfunctional and Shadowlife were good for what they were, but not my kind of thing). I enjoyed this album, agree about the two tracks Andrew mentions in his review not being too great, but overall, as a long-time fan, I liked it. I've got used to Don sticking to his lower range, and his voice still sounds good to my ears within that range. I think they got the blend of old and new influences more accurately nailed on this one, than on say "Hell To Pay", which wasn't a b

Agree with the above! Don's voice sounded unusually raspy on "Lighning...", which was just before he had vocal surgery apparently. He sticks within his lower range, none of the 80s high notes, but having said that, his voice sounds good in the lower range. I liked this album quite a bit, I thought it blended the "classic" Dokken sound with more contemporary influences

1919 Eternal, The Blessed Hellride and Mafia are all good ones. Also, the acoustic album, Hangover Music, is a raelly good one, a bit different for an acoustic album, it has the full band playing and facemelting Zakk solos, but the songs are acoustic based. And his Book of Shadows acoustic solo album is excellent too.

I remember reading about them re-using early songs on later album. There was an interview with Ed around the time of 1984 in which he said "House of Pain" was from one of their original demos. Apparently he's always been a pretty prolific writer - having your own studio would certainly help with that!
