Deep Purple: Gillan never did anything by Coverdale/Hughes. He even said that he never listened to any of the albums done without him.

I am a huge MU fan. I am sure Sir Alex has been planning this exit for at least a couple of years. This is not a rushed decision. I also feel that they exactly know who will replace him, and that this person has been approached possibly a year ago or more. I do not want Mourinho. He would ruin what the club has built in the last 25 years. He is a mercenary, and when I see what he did at Re

What you said about how much value one would place on the sound is very true. I think that Survivor with Bickler and Jamison are two different sounds, but it is really the same band. The style hasn't really changed much due to the change of singers. Poison with CC DeVille - who should be left nowhere near a guitar - and Richie Kotzen are two different bands. Ozzy's various incarnations h

I agree with you about Van Halen. I would even go as far as saying that Roth is/was replaceable. I can think of many guitar players who are very replaceable, not saying the sound would not change, but it would not change drastically: Amir Derakh/Chris Hager in Rough Cutt. The guys in Warrant. Basically most of the guitar players in most hair bands did not have a lot of personality, or at

Probie, Your comments on Steve Smith shocked me. Who was he? Did he play on all the hits? Have you read the credits once? Steve Smith is on all of their big hits: Don't Stop Believin', Open Arms, Faithfully, Separate Ways, etc. Neil Murray... well, I am biaised because we are friends but to state that he is a "mere footnote to the name" shows serious brain deficiencies. I wanted to post here below in the "Friends or Business partners" thread but for some reasons couldn't. I was actually somewhat pissed off by some comments hinting that if you are a keyboards player, bassist or drummer you actually were not really a key member of a band. I find this comment ridiculous, albeit it probably would depend on how you listen to music or whether you have a p

They are still around? Good for them! I was very much into them from 1982 until 1995 and then lost touch with their music. Interesting band indeed. Wrong look though at a time where image was becoming more important.

Hi Luca, I love you too :-)) The screams were really was put me off. That is also the reason why Glenn Hughes sometimes gets on my nerves. When I first heard him, I thought "who is that idiot screaming over Coverdale's vocals?" LOL And to this day, I don't like him in his screaming mood. Gillan's voice never did it for me. I don't feel the passion when he is singing. But that'

I can only listen to the Coverdale/Hughes era. I do not care at all for anything Ian Gillan ever did. Do not like his voice and style at all. A propos Gillan, there is a extensive biography on DVD that was released about 5 years ago, and it is brilliant. I think it is a must-buy even for me who is not a fan. So for fans, it is a no brainer. I do not like him as a singer, but the man is h

I quite like the music on all of their albums. No need to be a genius to see the strong similarities with Whitesnake's albums with Doug :-) The singer though is not my cup of tea. I therefore never enjoyed this band to the fullest extent.

Playing "Bat Out Of Hell 2" at the moment in my car. Watched the DVD of "Bat Out of Hell" over the weekend. BOOH2 is in my humble opinion Meat Loaf's finest hour ever. Apart from maybe "Life Is A Lemon...", there are absolutely no filler on it. Great album from strart to finish. If you ever need only ONE album by ML, get BOOH2. It has everything ML is all abou

Purely from a music point of view, I think Dakota could have been huge. They did not really look the part at a time where Bon Jovi and Night Ranger released their debut, and got a better chance at success. Vocally, Dakota were much better than both bands combined. Gino Vannelli. I know he is not unknown, but he should have become a huge star. His music is original, and he doesn't sound like an

Ross Bolton, who toured for many years with Al Jarreau, suddenly passed away on 30 March at the young age of 54. Very few details are available, but he seems to have been suffering from an unknown/undisclosed disease. Ross was a very good all-around player, and although he was not as well-known as Luke, Landau, Huff or Thompson, he was a highly respected musician, clinician and teacher. I h

They suck. Period. Cannot find anything positive to say about them except that they only had two good musicians in their ranks: Castillo and Corabi. They did not last. I rest my case. (This is not a personal reply to you Adolfo).

Metro, There were others indeed, of which the two you mentioned. I however feel that they were not in the same category. Ira is based in NY and he was popular indeed, as were Steve Khan, Sid McGinnis and David Spinozza. You had guys like Paul Pesco, David Williams, WahWah Watson and a few others who had a good name too. Of course, and I could beat myself for forgetting him, there is the

I have no clue either. Even if studio time is free - let's assume he has his home studio - there are other costs for artwork, printing, etc. my guess is that producing a CD would cost you at least USD 15,000. In this case, he only would have to sell between 750 to 1000 copies to break even (priced at USD 15 or 20). I know how much some musicians made playing on recent MR albums, and it is rid

I never ever understood why people hold Paul Rodgers in such high esteem. I always thought he lacked passion. He is a good singer, and I quite like him, but he never really blew me away. It must piss them off that they did not write most of the songs during Howe's tenure.... these albums were successful, and Brian must have seen most of the songwriting royalties going into his pocket. Sin Decade (1992) is my favourite. I then would go to "Red Hot and Heavy" and the accoustic album from 1994. If you have these three you'll have a good idea of what PM is all about. I have been a fan since 1984, and on the contrary to many, I feel that "Jump The Gun" is their weakest album. PM have been consistently very good. There is not a bad album out there. Althoug

1. Love Parade 2. Kudeta (Coup d'Etat) - demos with Ricky Phillips 3, 4 and 5: depends on the mood. I cannot say there is a full album I love from A to Z except Love Parade and Kudeta. Vocals are always top though. However, songs are not always on par with his vocal abilities. I would love to hear JSS sing more stuff like the cover he did of Madonna's "Frozen" with Talisman.

Let's be realistic, as talented as Sherinian is - and he definitively is - he has no fan base per se. People who are Kiss fan do not even buy en masse albums from ex- KISS members: ask Bruce Kulick! You really think that KISS die-hards are therefore interested in a guy who played keyboards - not excactly the first instrument you think of when talking about KISS - BEHIND THE CURTAIN? As far as

Well, to me, their lyrics are cheesy with no exception. And I really read them. I am not asking them to be poets, but their lyrics are really poor. They might want to express something deep, but the way it comes out is very generic to my ears. Motoring.... yeah, that's a bad one indeed! Night Ranger is another band with poor lyrics....

How he sells out venue is irrelevant! Then why are Glenn or Bonham not selling those venues as well? Glenn could claim a "funk" and rock fan base? Bonham could claim a "Led Zep nostalgic" fan base? They could claim, but they don't have it. And that is a fact. I am no JB fan. Only have one solo live album and that with Beth Hart. He might be overrated to some, fair enough. I
