Was very saddened to hear about Vince's passing. Mitch Rapp is one of my fictional heroe's. I agree that Brad Thor is another great author. Have not heard of Ben Coes. Will check him out. Thanks for the heads up.

I have a 5 year old daughter, 7 year old son, and 9 year old son. They love melodic rock. I just made a mix cd of their favourite songs for a road trip and it included H.E.A.T, Dynazty, Oxygen, Steelhouse Lane, Giant, Crown of Thorns, Jimi Jamison, Brother Firetribe, Gotthard, Silent Rage

Unfortunately NZ's excellent Shotgun Alley have called it quits this week. As a thank you to the fans they have put up their second album, which would have been released shortly, up for free download until the end of the week. A very good album, IMO, and a shame that such a promising band have broken up. http://www.shotgunalleyrock.com/fr_home.cfm

New Zealand's Shotgun Alley have released an ep called 'Damnation' which is free for download. Some impressive tracks on here, especially 'The Dream' and 'Ray of Light'. http://www.shotgunalleyrock.com/fr_home.cfm

It will be a great shame if Roy has completely turned his back on music, as he has a unique and fantastic voice, but I respect his decision. I'm a Kamelot fan but they lost me with Ghost Opera and Poetry for The Poisoned. They just didn't grab me like Black Halo. Will be interesting to see who they use for their first album after Roy.

completely agree Rocknut. You shouldn't be able to get to the next round losing two games, but when you have groups of 5 teams it can happen.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!! speechless as well after screaming so hard at the TV. We, as a country, needed this so damn much. It really has been such a tough year or so and winning the World Cup will give us a much needed lift. I am so very proud to be a Kiwi right now. On a side note, in the lead up to the final tonight one of New Zealands TV stations was using alot of classic melodic ro

Hi Rocknut. Thanks for checking the bands out. I can assure you Shotgun Alley are not going after the 'teen dollar' or manufactured in any way. They've supported Steel Panther in LA, as well as Alice Cooper, ZZ Top, Dream Theater, and also Def Leppard next week, and have worked extremely hard to get this album out. I agree, the ballad isn't in the Warrant vein, but I wasn't trying to imply

Just wanted to give people the heads up about a couple of very good melodic hard rock/metal bands from New Zealand. Firstly there is Shotgun Alley who have just released their self-titled first album. Their sound is late 80's, early 90's melodic hard rock similar to Warrant and Roxus. The album has a great, crisp production and the performances overall are right up there with anything else in

If you're speaking of melodic rock, sleaze, etc, then try www.heavyharmonies.com and search under year 1995. Plenty of albums there.

Not sure if they are saying this in Australia, but they are touting this tour as the first time the original band have been to New Zealand. I mean. WTF? Who came up with this? Someone want to ask Scott Travis if he's an 'original' member? He isn't even a Brit. I'm surprised a band like JP let out a press release like this, that is factually wrong. I know, I'm being pedantic.

What a surprise. I'd heard some of their earlier stuff and was less than impressed. But newest effort The Scythe is a monster. Much more melodic than I was expecting with a massive production. For those into melodic metal, with a touch of growly vocals, definitely give this a try.

If this single is anything to go by, the new album will be a monster. Amazing production and Apollo rips on vocals. Check the new song out at their myspace page : http://www.myspace.com/firewind

I'm truly shocked at this decision, and find it completely hypocritical. Here is a label who is vanquishing the most important site for this scene, for apparent conflict of interest reasons. So, Andrew has decided to help a fledgling label with his expertise. Frontiers are pissed. Yet, they themselves release a magazine which not only allows advertising by other labels, but reviews other labels

I love the first album, so-so on the second, and think Scarecrow is amazing. One thing that I find interesting about this album, is Oliver Hartmann. As far as I knew, he was going to steer clear of doing these guest vocal spots and concentrate on his solo career. After listening to his vocals on Scarecrow, and how disappointed I was with his 2nd solo album, I would love to have another full lengt

I'm not trying to mud sling here, but a couple of bits from both Andrews statement and Harry's comments have me confused. Andrew, you've said that you are now out of pocket due to the non-refundable flights. If I read it right, Harry says they should have let their agent handle things, rather than themselves. I don't know how things work in this business but it sounds like Harry and the band a
