LOL, Tom! I'm sure the entire city of Chicago breathed a great sigh of release that the Kings didn't quality for the playoffs. They would have been the team that nobody wants to play. It's weird, they never come alive until the playoffs. They had a few close calls sneaking in at the last minute, this year it didn't work out. Good luck to you guys!

I totally agree. RS certainly has all the trademarks that people around here love about this kind of music, but it's totally generic, which is a shame when you consider the talent involved. Given Deen's voice, I guess it was written to sound like Journey and it does. And Toto is a grower indeed! It's also an example that sometimes a bit more subtle hooks and choruses work better in the lifesp

As much as I love Sammy, but he should really give the VH bashing a rest. He's usually such a fun and postivie person, but you can tell he's still pissed off about the brothers. Let it go already.

Good but not as good as Dark Passion Play, which is my favorite Nightwish album. I'm somewhat suprised how restrained Floor Jansen sings through most of the record.

Blackmore, along with Robert Plant, is one of the few geezers with some dignity left out there. Frankly, I'd be very surprised to see him come back. Nor do I think would a reformed Rainbow drum-up a lot of business. A comeback With DP would be a different story. I'm sure he doesn't need the money and he seems really happy with Blackmore's Night.

"Amen" and "I Am The Fire" are the two most commercial songs and more in line with the previous album.

Funny, to me it sounds not very produced. I think they went for a rawer, more aggressive sound this time around. But I agree that the songs lack instant appeal and hooks. Perhaps that was also done on purpose as "The Strange..." was a very commercial album. As I mentioned in a previous post, there are 2-3 songs that I like, the rest is a bit mehh...

Yep, same here. Loved White's vocals in Rainbow and Cornerstone, but now he sings like a metal singer.

I'd very surprised if they record a studio record as Sammy stated there won't even be a new Chickenfoot record because it doesn't make any economic sense.

Mike, I totally agree. Other than "I Am The Fire" and "Amen" there's nothing that sticks. And that super thin and underproduced sound doesn't help. The drums sound like they were recorded in a cardboard box. Major disappointment.

Great band, but it's not HEAT or Eclipse! ;-)

As good as the band sounds, Roth's vocals make this thing pretty much unlistenable. I give the band credit though for doing what most bands don't dare to do by not touching up the vocals, but in this case I would have preferred a little fixing of his voice. Also, Wolfie does a fine job with the backing vocals, but he's no Michael Anthony! It really shows you how much he contributed to the VH shou

Both truly great songs, but how many re-recorded versions of Burn and Stormbringer do we have to hear? The only guy with some dignity left is Backmore.

I just wonder what goes through Frontiers' heads when they come up with these video concepts. It's a good song, but it's completely ruined by a horribly cheesy and cheaply filmed clip. It just boggles the mind. The die-hards will buy it regardless of the video, but I doubt they'll pick-up any new or potential fans with this kind of crap.

Funny, "Burn" is the only song that sounds a bit compressed. Other than that I agree, it's a fantastic album that flows beautifully. I think my favorite is "Unknown Soldier", but it's really hard to pick individual songs as the quality is so high.

Mike, they're a great band, but I'm afraid modern rock is where melodic rock was in 1990. There's zero originality in most new bands, in particular when it comes to that vocal style. The only ones surviving are the ones that invented/shaped the genre, Nickelback, Papa Roach, Skillet etc. We desperately need a new spin, a new twist. Something.

It's a shame they never released a proper live album with either Sammy or Dave. Live Right Here isn't, as well all know, really live and the new one sounds dreadful.

Papa Roach are like Nickelback, they always deliver even if they stick to their formula. There's some filler, but tracks like "Face...", "Skeletons", "Never Have To Say Goodbye", "War Over Me" and "Devil" are as good as anything they're written. And I must say the lyrics always pump me up. It's my favorite gym and workout soundtrack.

Fantastic album, it never feels like I have to skip a track. Very fresh sounding too and I like the more subtle approach to hooks and choruses, which is so refreshing compared to all the overblown Scandinavian Toto clones.

Well, I don't want them to sound like Eclipse either, but there's nothing that really sticks. The songs certainly have quality, but it's that extra little spark that's missing, at least for me.

Haugland sounds great mainly because of Dave Cobb's production. He's the guy responsible for the huge drum sound of the Rival Sons. Overall, it's a step-up from the previous two dreadful albums, but it still lacks melody. I don't want them to go back to the 80's sound, but a few bigger hooks wouldn't hurt either.

I tend to agree. They still deliver quality stuff, no doubt, but their last few albums all sound a bit the sameish and I too would wish more of an AOR sound.
