I can see how they could learn from TV. Just the simple fact that the labels dropped the ball when the internet exploded and have failed to find a new business model. So I'm a believer in why not, there current ideas aren't working. But as far as audience I take as example every year the summer shed tours which are huge draws but artists that get next to zero label, radio push. Sure the older bands are not going to be around forever. But if labels pushed them as they once did it would expose young audiences to the music. That alone will increase sales and attendance = MORE PROFIT. Then you develop young bands and artist like the older bands and trend continues.

And as far as exposure. I drive a bus and I do teen sport events. Thanks to TV songs like Don't Stop Beliving, Wanted Dead Or Alive etc are being sung on mix tapes after the game. 14-17 year olds! All colors of people! Imagine if they actually got to hear things other than the pop crap of today?
