Obviously 1988 was pre-internet, pre-cell phone and pre-social media.

I was 17 when my sister and I tracked down Joe Elliott before the Denver (In The Round In Your Face) gig at McNichols Arena. He made an appearance at 106.7 KAZY and a few hundred fans showed up to greet him. His handlers said Joe would be happy to meet and greet everyone after the appearance as long as we were well behaved and didn't bum rush him. They warned us if he got swarmed, they would leave.

So everyone lined up single file and waited for Joe. When he came out, he probably made it five minutes before a ton of fans started crowding him. Naturally, he got in a car that was waiting for him and they drove off. My sister was smart enough to see this coming and she was in her car ready to go. She yelled for me to get in the car and we followed Joe on the highway doing 90mph. (Yes, this is a true story...)

After a few minutes, we both pulled up in front of a hotel and Joe very casually gets out of the car. I yelled "Hey Joe" and he stopped for us, posed for photos, signed my Animal 12" single and chatted for a few minutes.

As I was walking away, I turned around and said, "Oh Joe, what's the b-side going to be for the Pour Some Sugar On Me single coming out?"

He replied, "Ring of Fire" and I was psyched.

I loved buying the 7" and 12" singles and playing those bonus tracks as they got released. Ring Of Fire is still one of my all-time favorite Leppard tracks. (I'm on the left here)
