I don't think it's unique to the current scene, if you go back to that time i'm sure there were loads of copycats and sub standard bands trying to imitate popular bands and their sound. I'm sure many peep's quote this very thing for creating the downfall of melodic rock in the early 90's too many bands trying to have a certain sound and most of em been shit!

BUt I do totally agree there is a lot of bands at the moment trying to perfect a certain melodic rock sound which is popular with genre fans but the glut of these bands especially the sub standard ones detracts from the genuinely good ones that emerge. I think most people who frequent this board yearn for bands who have a unique sound or have their own stamp - although I know they are a marmite band I feel one thing that stands VEGA out at the moment is the fact they are trying have their own sound and refuse to follow the 'melodic rock song writers' handbook which so many of the bands your talking about refuse to detract from - because and here's the thing most people here fail to recognise is it's because they think it's what we want! they don't want to write songs people don't want to buy and by sticking to tried and tested formula's they edge their bets at success within the hardcore fan base!

There's always gonna be shit bands....copycat bands.....and bloody good bands we just have to keep and eye out for them and when they emerge support the bloody hell out of em and remember when the shit sound a likes emerge we ignore them!
