I listened to Wetton with District 97 ( http://youtu.be/ODe-iAaNvnQ ) and immediately thought at Downes being the culprit for Asia mellow sound.
Wetton still loves a good prog/rock sound, Howe is blamed by almost anyone, Palmer with Bielatowicz on guitar does a stunning ELP reinterpretation.
Anyway, as much as I liked XXX, it didn't do a lot for me.
I consider Asia first and second as 2 masterpieces, the rest has some good moments here and there, but nothing memorable.
Get that last District 97 record instead, a cross between old prog school and new prog. A true masterpiece.
Cheers
