Nope - it used to be the Institute, then changed to HMV Institute and now back again. Its opposite the coach station. (you may know it as being the location of Barfly Birmingham when that was open)

Good venue, really good sound but bear in mind the balconys are unreserved for every event ive seen advertised so get there early....

Bear in mind the ground floor/standing/stalls is on the 1st level, so upper balcony is in effect going up 3 levels...so its a bit of a trek..

I dont know what their disabled access is like - i didnt see a lift but thats not saying there isnt one...

Edit - this may be of interest. Id just give them a ring and ask them.

The Institute takes the needs of special needs customers very seriously and actively encourages people of all abilities to attend the events scheduled at their venue.

Though built at the turn of the 1900’s, the building has been modernized to allow wheelchair access via front of house (please note there is no backstage accessibility). Due to Health and Safety Assessments, we regret the number of wheelchairs that we can admit to the building is limited.

In order to ensure that all special needs patrons to The Institute are adequately catered for, we request that in advance of ticket purchase all special needs customers contact the venue to explain the nature of the disability. Please email theinstitute_boxoffice@mamaco.com or call 0121 631 5538. The telephone line opens at 11am and closes at 5pm and operates Monday to Friday. Please do not call outside of these hours as you will be asked to call back. Please note that no other query can be dealt with on this number.

On the evening of an event, we do advise special needs customers to arrive at the venue 15 minutes prior to doors, ideally accompanied by a carer over 18 years old who will be admitted free of charge.

The free carer ticket is available to patrons who are registered special needs. Both the ticket to be paid for and the free carer ticket needs to be booked in advance. Please email theinstitute_boxoffice@mamaco.com for specific requests, enquiries or comments regarding access/personal needs and a member of our team will endeavour to accommodate such requirements.

Steve
