Sure no music genre will ever die completely but like others have pointed out above, with a dying and financially declining industry, there will never be the next Maiden or the next (insert WHOever here)... But rock being dead I kinda disagree with. Any genre is under the same decline and I appreciate while looking in from the outside that may come across as being 'in denial', just like can appreciate most those quote above and their 'insiders' point of view.

But re Rock being dead? Meh, not exactly IMO and think the final word by Grohl is where my own head is at;

“Someone asked me: ‘What do you think the problem with the music industry is?’” Dave Grohl said a couple of years ago.
“I said: take the Adele record. It’s an amazing record. Everybody’s so shocked that it’s such a phenomenon. I’m not. You know why that record’s huge? Because it’s fucking good and it’s real… Imagine if all records were that good. Do you think only one of them would sell? Fuck no! All of them would. If all records were that good the music business would be on fire…”

So appreciating a 2014 music business on fire may not fare so well compared to 'the industry as we once knew it', but if more records were THAT good, like Dave says, stack em up and (enough?) change may come of it. But not exactly a 'turn around' as such, particularly while consumers can consume without expense to their pockets (yes that old chestnut but unfortunately has some relevance to the topic at hand IMO).
