It's a curious one but Sixx's side project Sixx AM has become very popular and I'd guess there is a fair degree less hassle going out on tour with James Michael and D.J. Ashba rather than Vince Neil and Tommy Lee.

I'd also guess that even after the 'farewell', not unlike Thunder, they can always do a 'surprise' re-union whenever they feel like it.
