VIVA Hysteria! What were the thinking?!!?!!?

Don't go. In all seriousness. Don't. Really. Don't. It was truly sad.

That was the absolute worst singing I have ever heard - and I have heard Coverdale at his worst and Cluase Miene with a head cold. We all know Joe has problems, but this was embarrassing. The only song that was even close to his range was Hysteria. When he started to sing, I turned to my wife and said, "I sure hope his voice warms up." It didn't. It was shot. And he has such an ego, he didn't even try to drop things down to a lower key. My wife at one point said she wished he was lip synching. He made Don Dokken sound like Pavaroti.

He truly butchered the songs. To make it worse, his vocal track was so high up in the mix it sounded like he was standing next to you and screaming. Whereas the backing vocals (which sounded very good) were almost buried. Guitars were also buried. Instead, you could hear every single note of the bass, just thumping on and on. Had the guitars been as prominent, it would have made for a great sound, but isolated the bass overwhelmed.

Phil - OMG! I sat in front of three women who swooned every time the cameras zoomed in on his navel. For 55, he is in phenomenal shape, but the coating in baby oil was downright sleazy. Aside from the porn sounds they were making, I almost smacked them when one said, "Wow, they are really playing some old songs" when Don't Shoot Shotgun came on.

Rick - He looked like a catatonic elf. He had this stupid grin the whole time like he was completely high - or more like that far away look a truly crazy person has when they are a million miles away from reality.

Viv - Who knew how much he is carrying the band at this point? His playing was very good, and I kept wishing he would just grab the mic from Joe and sing lead himself. He seems to have no ego at all - clearly the best thing to happen to the band. Too bad they don't let him loose.

The crowd noise was the final blow. It was like a laugh track in a television comedy. After every song it was cranked up.

Bottom line - the whole thing looked like a video awards show, and it left you wishing it was. That way, the vocals would have been overdubbed and it would have ended sooner.

Honestly. Remember when you were a kid and you would smell something awful, like your sweat socks, and say to your friend, "These are so gross. Smell them." And your friend would. Take my word. We are adults. I am telling you the socks are foul. Don't bend over and smell them.

Anyone who sees this will never seem them live again.

Why didn't I walk out? I am still asking myself that same question.
