Steven Wilson, Marillion, Radiohead & Nine Inch Nails along with quite a few others have all shown that it's relatively easy to take a record company out of the equation these days and still make a living.

Record companies dropped the ball over 10 years ago with the original Napster fiasco when they should have seen what was coming and adopted their business model to suit. They didn't and they're now pretty much a dying entity.

Lars saw it coming while he was suing Napster, Metallica have been selling recordings of their shows online ever since !

Steven Wilson sold a live show from an early leg of his tour to finance the next leg.
