Cherokee, the word "loose" is actually "lose". The related and past-tense word is "lost". Aye, mate?

Alex, I have been a guitarist for many years and played in a few bands. I took a break from the band biz in 2006. My guitar has since become a distant applicant of priority in my life, which is actually a shame. Like you, I write music. Having listened to your demo, I do have some points of advice.

1) Use more vibrato. Most of the greatest singers are identified not only by their tone and annunciation, but their vibrato, as well. The lead guitar is not unlike the human voice in terms of vibrato. For example, guitarist John Sykes is has a signature vibrato that is slow and swings wide. I strongly advise you to listen to Journey albums and Neal Schon's use of vibrato. Also, listen to the first two albums by Boston. Try to learn a few songs by Journey and Boston, both of which are very Melodic and full of "feeling".

2) Try playing with a sense of reckless abandonment. Let your fingers land elsewhere (in weird spots) on your fretboard. You might discover some new sounds and areas on the neck that will appeal to you. If you make mistakes, who the fuck cares? It's YOUR time and YOUR guitar. Throw caution to the wind.

3) Listen to some Blues. why? Cuz Blues is built on "feelings", brutha! It's not always about "technique". The goal is to try to create a feeling and a vibe for yourself....and when you have an audience, a feeling in your playing that listeners can connect with.
