To be fair people get old. As he said in interview it's 25 years old, most people can't do the same things they did 25 years ago (unless you're Rick Springfield or Eric Martin). Live in the studio with not many effects. I saw him at High Voltage a couple of years back and he wasn't much better with the old songs then. I think that's why a lot of the newer released have been slower more modern sounding to sing in a lower register.
