You stand correct on this,Sir CCM. Range is VERY important as far as longevity on the road. I'm quite sure that Journey made that very same decision over the JSS scenario. Great vocalist and all...holding up on their lengthy tours? Doubt that. T
PS: On a personal level--as much as I adore the Perry days of Journey, I was very concerned about attepting anything by them in my band back when. And we're just weekend warriors. I figured if there ever was a night I wasn't comfy trying to sing something by Journey, I'd feel pretty crappy about it. The tone of Perry is golden (as we know). Now I've been singing AC/DC for years (especially the Bon stuff). Very high vocals there--but a totally different TONE, and easier to pull off--for me anyway. Perry has such a rich tonal quality, and I wanted to be credible if we were going to learn anything by them. The solution? We tuned half-step down for them, and it's worked wonders. Still tough on occasion if I'm not A-one. But still doable,or I wouldn't risk them in our sets. so yeah...tonal quality is EVERYthing.
