I don't buy albums to support anyone. I think that's nonsense.

I buy an album if I like the band or the music. And I refuse to buy the new Bon Jovi because it's the worst album of their career and I can't even listen to it through....it's boring.

And by not buying, I hope it's part of a larger lack of album sales. And those low album sales might just send a signal that this experiment is not liked by at least a significant portion of the fans. Many bands - just like those in the 'scene' - will be in denial about what the signal means...oh, it's the market today, it's piracy, it's the label & promotion, whatever. I would say most of the time, it's because the album is just not that good. Talent is in short supply in any industry.
