new music, marketing, bon jovi

I know this was kinda discussed this past week but I wanted to kinda give me feelings on it.
with the "big" bands from the 80's - def lep, motley etc. while they all did well and still do well and none have to worry about money, bon jovi was the most successful.
while I have been critical like most of you of bon jovi's post 2000 releases as they have veered away from more guitar heavy rock ( for me the exception was have a nice day), i will give the band credit for keeping recording and putting out NEW music in a ful album format. with bounce, lost highway , have a nice day, circle and now the new one, they have released 5 brand new studio albums in the past 10-11 years. again this debate is not about what people think. reviews are more mixed...
now they sold ok but like most bands of all eras sales are down because its just too easy to steal the music.
bon jovi by far does not need the money, they could easily just do greatets hits tours like def, motley, poison etc and give up like those bands have on doing full new albums. But they havent. They know they are not going to sell millions of albums anymore, but yet they still create new music for their FANS if not for themselves. They tour alot and though the same age as def lep and motley, they play close to 3 hours many times playing not just the hits but playing alot from new album and recent releases to keep the fire going. while bands like def lep are lucky to play 2 hours . On top of that they release several dvd concerts along the way and other stuff to keep their fans happy and their name out there. They market themselves very well appearing on all sorts of shows even non rock shows like american idol to again market themselves.
The market has changed and done are the days where artists sell millions of records. It does happen but much harder to do, for any artist. But that does not mean a band should just give up.
while I have not been a huge fan of recent bon jovi stuff most albums have enough songs I like to satisfy me. I will support them by buying the hard copy cd of which i have already ordered, As I also support other bands.
so ..to bands like def lep, motley, and now maybe journey...they need to learn and remain creative...
off of soap box now.
