Same as rocknut for me, Benno . . . I'd probably go for a year between 1982 and 1984.

It depends on my mood and what specific genre I look for. Sure, the later years 1985-1990 was probably better for the more commercial style hard rock . . . but in the end, that's not my preference.

Some of my faves from 1982 (but I could easily make a just as good list from the following 4-5 years):

MSG - Assault Attack
Magnum - Chase The Dragon
Y&T - Black Tiger
Judas Priest - Screaming For Vengeance
Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast
Billy Idol - st
Vandenberg - St
Kansas - Vinyl Confessions
Blackfoot - Highway Song, Live
Grand Prix - Samurai
KISS - Creatures Of The Night
Night Ranger - Dawn Patrol
Survivor - Eye Of The Tiger
Whitesnake - Saints And Sinners
Toto - IV

Etc.
