I don't think that Addyeddy was debating who "deserves" it more based on interest or knowledge, just that many bands would get the most exciting sound/image from a recording in South America, where it's common to have tens or hundreds of thousands of intense fans who even go as far as to sing along to guitar riffs!

As for the longtime practice of live albums and videos from Japan, I'm really not sure. I can think of it dating back to at least the 60s with The Ventures. I'm sure it could even be earlier.
