Sure, derivative as it may be (I had to look that word up, btw), I love the sound and this song is just old school (hard) rock with the warm feel of yesterday.
"Stu says they even used tape to capture that old earthy feel"
And you can tell. I haven't heard the album, but the "analog" feel of this song and the rest of the clips I've heard appeals to me.
"It's music I could play in the background, but it's not music I could sit and actually enjoy listening to for any length of time"
Funny you should say that, Steve, I'm the total opposite in this department. :-)
This is the kind of music I feel could sound bland and uninspired when just played in the background. I believe this could be the kind of album I'd rather sit down in a sunny living room in the afternoon, with a cup of coffee, and listen to at a high volume and just hear all the passages and stuff going on.....without listening fatigue. I think it needs the attention and active listening. Preferably with a large vinyl artwork in my hands. ;-)
