I don't think everything released today is crap or bad song writing...but i honestly think that we need to take a MUCH more sober look at the level of song writing and over hyping of new releases that constantly happens...

One key factor is personal taste...a lot of younger fans didn't grow up in the 70's and 80's which mean they didn't LIVE those years with trends, fashion, music, politics etc so the music isn't in any way related to childhood memories (good and bad) etc...for these people the new albums create the soundtrack to their lives...

And it's always hard to compete in good or bad music...since it's all about taste in the end of the day....but i've been a pro musician and SONG WRITER for more than 30 years now and i've worked with many of the biggest and best writers on the planet including legends like Carole Bayer Sager and Burt Bacharach...i've spent years going to seminars with song writing geniuses like Ralph Murphy and so on...i've picked the brain of Desmond Child, Andreas Carlsson, Bob Ezrin, Mutt Lange, Max Martin, Jim Peterik, Steve Porcaro and tons of other amazing writers regarding the CRAFT of writing songs...
And listening to the older albums, which many are rightfully classic, the have stood the time thanks to...ta da...the songs!!!

Not sure that many of the releases today will go down in history in the same way...the odd song might...but if i hear one more round of Em, C, G, D or C, G, Am, F with the usual cliche lyrics and melodies i might snap hahaha

I AM picky...and it's just MY personal taste...not the rules to follow etc...

For me this is a topic that can't be delt with in just a few posts here...it's like trying to explain the brilliance of Da Vinci or Mozart in a few posts :D

it is interesting though
