Re: Backing Tape Usage

I'll be honest, I hate backing tapes for 99% of the time. My exception is the likes of the intro to Def Leppard 'Gods of War' which has always been a constructed effect.
The point is that as technology becomes more advanced and tapes gradually infiltrate live performances, it snowballs. We start with intro effects and before you know it, all backing vocals have at least support, instrument parts are more tape than live etc etc etc and you end up with a near musically 'perfect' recorded rendition of a live gig.
Honestly it's utterly wrong. A live gig is about the live feel, not note perfect production. A studio can hide a multitude of skill deficiencies. A great live performer should be able to shine with everyone showing what they REALLY can do on the live stage.
At the very least, there should be clear information on tickets to inform the public how much of the gig will be using pre-recorded tracks.
Come on people! This is music. It's art, not a chemistry lab!
The more we accept it, the worse it will get.
