While I think John Sykes was musically an INCREDIBLE match with David's vocals and style (Doug Aldrich is a very similar match fortunately), I understand why David had to let him go and I would have done the same based on everything I know of the situation. Syke's addictions and interpersonal issues made it impossible for them to continue working together effectively. Firing Sykes had nothing to do with his musicianship because he was clearly an amazing guitarist. There were more fundamental issues that had to be considered.
