It's the way most companies reduce staff levels/operating costs etc & is often referred to as a restructuring process,......sounds more positive than making 'cutbacks'. If done correctly, it is indeed legal under correct UK employment law. what line of work is it in?
Sorry to hear of anyone having to go through these things, creates alot of uncertainty and resentment that generally leads to a less productive workforce as an end result.
