I don't consider it open minded to like something a band puts out no matter what it sounds like. To be predisposed to liking something because it has the name Bon Jovi written on it strikes me as narrow minded.

I admire Bon Jovi for staying creative through the 90s/00s but I haven't enjoyed anything they've put out in a long time.

As for the review itself, I suspect part of it's perspective is that, at this point, 80s rockers trying to stay "relevant" by going against brand is no longer a selling point. The last decade has produced SO many quality albums by 80's bands (Infestation, Into the Now, any Maiden record, How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, etc.) and retro-80's acts (W.E.T., etc.) that there's really no excuse for even a legacy band not to put out good rock music.
