I would encourage you to delve into the artists and albums of the past. Try:
Montrose S/T
Santana S/T
Chicago (Chicago Transit Authority, there 1st album)
Jeff Beck Truth and Beck-Ola
Anything by The Rolling Stones (while they many radio hits, they have an amazing amount of great non-radio songs)
Humble Pie

etc
