This is a quote from an interview with John:
"Unfortunately, it took that long to get it resolved. And of course, when I was in legal [proceedings], I couldn't work. Nobody would touch me while I got out of it. I literally got out of it in December last year."
I think this means, while the lawsuit didn't say he couldn't, work it still had that effect.
