I've lived in Denver since 1977 and I attended the "In The Round In Your Face" filming at McNichols Arena 25 years ago tonight! Holy crap, I'm getting old...
I was a HUGE Def Leppard fan going back to High N' Dry, but my parents thought I was too young to go to rock shows - I even missed the Pyromania tour. It would be FOUR LONG YEARS before I would see my Def Leppard show on February 12, 1988 and they didn't disappoint. We had third row tickets - my friends and I ended up in the "Pour Some Sugar On Me" music video as well as the long form VHS while Joe Elliott introduced "Photograph." The camera pans across and we're all right there...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yonijurHnjsThe show was unbelievable. Tesla ripped through their opening set with class, but Leppard took it to a new level. Opening with Stagefright, Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop), Women and Too Late For Love - I pretty much lost my mind in the first 20 minutes.
They played "Sugar" twice that night, Joe explaining that they needed to get as much footage as possible for the music video. "So pretend that you're hearing it for the first time," I remember him saying.
Not included in the final video were Travelin' Band, Let It Go and maybe another Don't Shoot Shotgun. Can't wait to see Viva! Hysteria next month in Las Vegas...
