I agree, more or less. I'm of the opinion that the good songs far outweigh the filler [for me, Journey were consistently good to great songwriters] but I do go along with the thinking that it was because of the 'bluesy soul' that was running rich through the hard rock.
What grinds my gears is that whenever Journey are mentioned you get the Perry 'Jihadist' movement gatecrashing the party.
How good was Steve Perry on his own? Well....what were the sales figures for 'Street Talk' and 'FTLOSM'? Why is it the generally accepted wisdom that when Perry took 'control' of the band the standard dropped off?
Journey were a band and should be seen as such.
