Apparently it may not be a typo - some people list items with very high prices because they do not have any stock & it is a way of 'holding' a listing so as not to incur charges (presumably for relisting an item) when they get stock in.
Sorry that is not a very clear explanation - not too sure I understand it myself!

And yes, Play will no longer sell their own items (after clearing stock), but just allow others to sell through the site.
