I think that has more to do with Shawn Fisher's eclectic taste. I mean, SOABM was basically Shawn plus his backing band. Having a lot of variation on an album is not necessarily a great thing if you are looking to take over the world. I personally like hearing stuff that is varied, but the typical music listener tends to be more "narrow-minded".
