It's tragic, indeed. But once panic sets in with a crowd anything can happen. Factor in bad safety practices and it's a recipe for disaster. I'm only amazed it doesn't happen more often.

Have you ever seen footage of a panicking crowd? It's fascinating stuff. As the movie quite goes (excuse the paraphrasing) "....a person is smart, people are dumb, panicky dangerous animals..."
