Wow. A lot different from anything they've done before, but...I like it. Its poppy, but at least its upbeat, right? I'm a big pop-rock fan, but a lot of their music's just been so...boring lately. Stuck in mid-tempo and ballad hell. The single "Home" from their last album was so average. Just kinda there. Its kinda funny, the way a lot of you feel about Bon Jovi, wanting them to "rock" again, I've felt about the Goos (and its ironic, since I just posted in the topic about the new Jovi song saying I'm fine if they don't "rock", so now I sound like a hypocrite lol).
People talk about them going pop, but they've been doing that since '98 with Dizzy Up the Girl. Listen to A Boy Named Goo and Superstar Car Wash...now THAT is how to rock. They had the perfect sound back then, pop punk meets power pop awesomeness. Robby's songs were actually good back then lol And their earliest stuff was even more rock/punk (but more lacking in hooks). So that's what I miss from these guys...songs that sounded alive. I still hope they'll rock more on the next album, but this isn't bad, so I consider it a (half) step in the right direction. At the end of the day, a good song is a good song, regardless of style. Could have been a lot worse.
