I think it has a lot to do with how a genre is perceived by the mainstream. Most of those genre's are quite well respected, Aor/Melodic Rock is not, simple as that. I've never seen it anything but ridiculed by the mainstream, especially here in the UK. A lot of it is seen as embarrassing style over substance that should be forgotten about.
