Re: Why is melodic rock not popular in America?

It COULD easily make a comeback here--if radio got their heads out of their collective arses. One example that happened in the mid 90's (past melrock's 'prime' era here) was Hootie & The Blowfish. Now, I realize they weren't hard rock, but still a 'rock band' and very mainstream oriented. BUT--they sold 15 mil for their debut and had 3-4 songs all OVER many radio stations, even crossing over from alt rock, classic rock, even country I think back then. But they were also a prime example of total burn out factor. They were in,then they were out. That had some to do with their somewhat naff second record--and they never recovered properly. Now Darius Rucker is a modern country star here. Not bad for a black dude in that market-he's done alright.Instantly recognizable voice, for sure. Perhaps the band will resurface someday for a big nostalgia tour. You can still hear those hits from the debut on occasion in stores, etc. In any event-when any band is pushed properly on radio,it can happen for them, even if their songs aren't all that. Same sad old scenario... T
